Would everyone on here be happy to pay dusty whatever it takes to keep him, if it jeopardises the chances of building a premiership list.

I think about 950k should be the number if dusty was fair dinkum about helping the team achieve success. If he's trying to squeeze every last dollar and make us over pay, then it's all about the money for him and he couldn't give a sh!t about team success

He has put in the hard yards for a frankly shitty performing club for close to a decade. How do you possibly get any more fair dinkum? Can't begrudge him for wanting a career payday as he won't have many options outside footy. That number is ridiculous though.

we havent been a shitty performing club in his time. we have won as many premierships as 12 other clubs, and our winning % in that time would be middle of the road.

That's exactly right Jason!

After footy ( as it stands now ) Dusty isn't someone who likes the limelight and will have a career on media street.

He is a no frills player and person it seems.

Loves playing football and loves the big stage. If he helps us , along with others to play finals then the asking price for Dusty will be a $1 million plus.

I don't listen to what the Ox says ( $1.6 ) and what Watson says. Both are Richmond hatters and just are there to stir us Tiger supporters to call talkback and who knows what their agenda is other than that for SEN.

If I were Dusty I would continue doing what I'm doing and help my team mates play finals and who knows from there.

We all want Dusty to stay.

Let's wait and enjoy his football for the time being.

Clubs are circling cause they know he is a unique talent who is versatile and in my eyes better than Kelly from GWS!

Reckon he'll sign for is for just over $1m but over either 6 or 7 years. He'll want to eek out as many years as possible. If we pay him say $6.5m over 6 years I'd be happy with that. Just under $1.1m, we keep him until he's 32-33, even if he can't finish in the mid at that age (I reckon he will) then he will be a hard match up in the forward line.

If Dusty has some smart people around him, they will be forcing him to put money aside for his future as we all know he won't be going into the media or into a coaching gig, just not his cup of tea I think.

If he was to get $6.5m over 6 years and they said put half in investments, then he will have $3.25m in the bank when he finishes (assuming he has no savings yet) which he will surely make 5% per year, would earn over $160k / year in passive income. He'll still do the odd club gig as he would be a 300 gamer etc, so would be earning over $200k for life IMO. Thats the way for him to go.

If you don't class 2010 as a shitty performance then I would hate to see your version of shitty. Haven't won a final after being gifted the easiest draws. This isn't even a debate, I honestly don't get your point in splitting hairs. We have sucked for too long.

That's my thinking. The club just has to make a fair offer and he will stay. None of this 1.6m rubbish. He loves the place and the people, they are his life and more importantly his routine.

Just to clarify Watson isn't a Tiger hater actually barracked for us as a kid bit like KB and the Dogs. Ok yes!

Yeah I know Watson supported the Tigers.

Found that out a week ago. Really didn't know he was prior to that.

If I'm wrong cool.

But Ox something else altogether.

Maybe I got Watson and Lyon wrong? He is a Richmond Hater.

Back to Dusty. He will get what is fair & reasonable , not outlandish talk of $1.6 million.

Yes agree on Lyon

It's probably been said already but if dusty takes off for one of these epic offers, we'd be in line for a good compo pick.
Doubt it would be market trade value though.
But buddy got an epic deal and the hawks got pick 19 :headscratch

Didn't Melb do better with a comp for Frawley?

Yes, I think Dees finished near the bottom & the Hawks either won it or came runner up hence then getting a compo pick right after your 1st round pick. Is that how it still works ?

The number one impediment to all of this is Ralph Carr. A mongrel of the highest order who won't advise Dusty to do what's best for Dusty. He continually advises him with his own commissions in mind. A shocking manager and the fact Dustin can't or won't see this makes me feel a bit sorry for him. And I've seen it first hand.

We have the right to match any offer. So we should do that and then negotiate a trade with the club he wants to go to
Ala Dangerfield.

Waiting on a compo pick from the afl is not the way to go.
Ala buddy pick 19

Is this the 3rd time that the contract negotiations have dragged on with dustys contract whilst a Richmond player.

I know the last time there was the whole GWS thing, which at the end of the day was money.

Was there a previous one also, if so it seems a regular occurrence come contract time.

Was confident but I reckon he is gone and the decision was made a while ago.

Actually the last one was quick. It was the one before that was the GWS thing.

Just read Connolly aa team. On what measure does dusty not get a gig in the starting 18?

He's 2nd behind Dangerfield IMO, yet Selwood, Sloane, Kelly and Pendlebury all chosen in front of him for starting 18. And to put Pendlebury on a wing is simply stupid. Just would never play there.

Must have some set against Martin to not include him.

No matter what he says, Connolly hates Richmond. When re-imagining the AFL Team of the Century about 10 years ago, he naturally included Carey. But instead of moving Royce to the flank, he left him out altogether so he could fit in his hero James Hird, and Nathan Buckley.

He's an alpha nerd bully-boy *smile*.

Your first mistake is putting any credence to what Bogan Connolly says.

At that time the AFL had it all stuffed, they've done a lot better lately. We'd definitely get a good draft pick, problem is we're not crash hot at getting our picks right.

I think he does sometimes he can make sense (when he gets his HOOHA)
