Dreamtime 2020 Game Day

I think the "Indigeneous" flag should replace the Union Jack in our current flag.

I don’t think this is a replacement for the current Indigenous flag, but I like it as a compromise for the National flag. From memory, the dots represent all the Nations.

Just as an aside to the flag debate, it is fairly warm up here at present. The wet is predicted to be early and it is quite humid. I hope the boys are up for it!

Changing the national flag as a solution to a couple refusing to lease the commercial use of a race flag seems a trifle extreme.

Anyway the match will proceed regardless.

It wasn't being offered as a solution at all, it was just a comment as to what would be a good flag imo.

I really don't think we should have the Union Jack on our flag any more. But it's just my opinion.

I hope we win the game also

The black yellow and red, replacing the Union Jack on The Australian Flag,

would be cool looking, and an extraordinary step towards reconciliation IMO

having the Union Jack on our flag is downright absurd.

Anyone who has been to an ashes test, and watched Britannias finest singing 'god save YOURE gracious queen' while waving our flag knows this to be true.

I love the Aboriginal flag, but they want it to stand alone, not be part of something else.

I've seen this before and I love it. I'd be very happy if this were our flag.

Of course. There are much better reasons to remove another nation's flag from ours. As Jerry Seinfeld said, "Look: England at night."

There is a good thread on twitter that explains the flag copyright issue pretty well.

Below reconciliation video is well worth the 30 minute view:

There is no doubt the establishment of the KGI and adoption of Treaty has made The Richmond Football Club a much better club, one that we can be proud of both on and off the field and in the community.
In many ways we have led the way as the AFL dragged their heels.

Can't wait to see the boys run out tomorrow night.

So how does that work when Google were threaten to remove the Flag ?
They weren't selling the flag, just using it as a symbol for Australia day that a young girl designed for a competition.

"You may have noticed that the Google Doodle on the homepage today is slightly different to Jessie's original entry, because that one contained copyright imagery that we weren't able to publish on the homepage today," said Google product marketing manager Katharina Friedrich

The copyright of the Aboriginal flag design belongs to Australian artist Harold Thomas.

Thomas told the Sydney Morning Herald that Google did not respectfully ask to use his design, and negotiations stalled as the company wanted to have it for "a pittance".

Are you allowed to sell stuff with other flags on them?

the brazilian flag has been used alot on clothing merch, especially thongs and beach wear.
For a small fee i can Google that for you H.

Like on most issues I have no idea.

Everybody should read that

Yes, clarifies quite a bit. The indigenous copyright holder and designer is exerting his legal rights that companies that want to make money from the use of the flag on saleable product should pay for it.

I reckon the aboriginal flag should remain as the aboriginal flag, in any case, the Torres Strait Islander flag also exists so they both need to be acknowledged.

As for the Australian flag, it really isn't great. The Union Jack should go for a start, maybe replace with the Eureka flag.

and there's absolutely nothing wrong with him doing so.

It's certainly not a great flag and the Eureka Flag would have been appropriate if it hadn't been compromised by being associated with certain organisations that purport to represent workers but are really nothing more than organised crime gangs.
It's gone beyond being able to be protected as a nation symbol.
There's been several proposed designs.
This is the one I prefer, submitted to Ausflag for their 2020 competition

Agree with that, but that makes his position on google trying to promote the aboriginal flag as a strange position to take. Having or not having it, would change the commercial income for Google by a big fat $0.

Government could buy the rights off the owner and allow it to be used with the same conditions as the Aussie (UK at night) flag
