Draft picks 2019

Let's not start going at each other about who we should've picked.
Who really gives a Flk??
We have won 2 flags.

Its party time till we realise that pick 22 was Martin part 2.
Then "Dow is worse then ellis" will start.

I have no idea what was going on before we picked but I also don’t know if clubs were calling us or the other way around.
All I can say is that what the last 3 years has taught us is that development and culture is at least as important as talent when you get to mid range picks and rookies and we are the best in the game at both of those.
If I think about the young players who didn’t play in the grannie and who are developing beautifully in our system none of them are really high draft picks
We have picked a guy who the club obviously sees as someone who can develop in the vfl and who has the tools to become a really good AFL player. Our list is such that he can spend the whole year playing vfl and it makes no difference to our 2020 chances. That’s a luxury few clubs have.
History tells us that players develop at different rates and at different ages and the real skill of a recruiter is to pick the guys at the picks like we have who have big upside. Hopefully Thomson Dow is one of those.

With Shane Edwards in the room, was he there due to his interest in list management, or was he on hand to do the jumper presentation to someone we were intending to take, before someone cut our lunch!?
So did Sheds do the presentation to TDow? I haven't got Foxtel and no vision on AFL/RFC websites that I know of? So no idea who did.
If so, how do you know that Sheds wasn't there for this express purpose, that Dow was our intended target? I, for one, have posted twice that he reminds me of Shane with his quick hands and vision in the contests. Similar size on drafting even.
Were our recruiters just thrown out initially by Silvagni's odd deals, thinking he jumped in to take TDow? Makes sense too, given his brother's already there.
Or was Philp the real RFC target and Cartoon got intel? Or was it all a decoy which SOS fell for? Would be fascinating to know the truth, but not sure anyone here ever will. However, SOS's actions look effective until the last move. Why would you trade 22 and 25 to the Power for pick 20? Give up 2 picks around the same mark to drop 2 places? Seems strange and dumb to me ... unless SOS has some obsession with trying to grab what is RFC's alleged preference. It looks to be consistent with the other odd deal in 2018 re Stocker.
It's all puzzling ... especially what is driving Silvagni? (I'm even wondering if the inability of Cartoon to make any apparent inroads on RFC's success over all his Cartoon drafting years was thrown at him in his job review? e.g. by Cain Liddle and company?)

Dow wasn’t there so there was no jumper presentation on the night. Most probably shedda was there to present the jumper of we picked someone who was there

So how many kids actually present not taken? Not many 'leftovers' so to speak? Unless we hoped for a slider but he was taken?

Reported tonight that we were into Philp which is why they gazumped us. Without disrespecting Dow that just pisses me off.

Reported where and by whom? But appears plausible. No doubt our guys would have had their next choice in mind, but Dow could loook like payback too ( if SOS planned to bring him in with Paddy).
However, presently, as far as anyone knows, they're equally good picks. In 3-4 years time, we'll know who picked the better man.

Seems interesting that Carlton traded picks to get from 22 to 20 to pick Philp, since they traded with port who clearly didn't want him (or they wouldn't have traded) they could have simply taken him with 22, unless they had intel that Richmond wanted him since we were the only club in-between. I dont know anything about him but my mate on the Carlton boards suggested that Philp and his family are big Richmond people and that Carlton's info was that we were looking at him. Hope it was a smokescreen and the 2 years in a row they have jumped in before us leaves them looking stupid forever.
I know the Philp family very well and can confirm they are all massive Richmond supporters.

Also Riley Beveridge tweeted that we were going to take him at our pick so Carlton engineered the trade to trump us.

Good luck to Carlton if they did. The last time they tried to gazump us at the draft table we won a premiership. *smile* them and their second rate GWS players.

So who is this Riley Beveridge dill? What a tool Silvagni is though! Just spoiled the kid's dream for sheer bastardry. How would he like it if his sons were treated like this?

No need to wait 3-4 years, the better man is the man picked by Richmond. They become a far more likely prospect the day they enter the Richmond development system.

Beveridge didn't say anything in the draft, he said he heard about it AFTER the draft, and followed it up with several people involved.

It's possible someone close to Philps let it slip (maybe even inadvertently). It could be we were going to take him with our 2nd round pick. Who knows.
Either way, we got Dow, who looks class.

Every season is a new one, Kid, and everyone is out to improve ... and knock off the champs. I don't ever get conceited. I remember all too well ... 37 years of heartbreak. It's a highly competitive game and change is the only thing guaranteed. Besides, if we truly wanted Philp as our first pick, I'm confident he's got a future wherever.
