Draft picks 2019

We have a system now that allows us to develop good players into better ones so I am confident that Dow will do OK.

Remember over the last couple of years our gems have come later in the draft so interested to see what we get from tonight tbh.

As for SOS, why all this love for getting potential mid range players over top end talent. He seems to pat himself on the back for turning 1 great pick into three risky picks all towards the end of the first round. It was like when he got all those discarded GWS players for one pick and I don’t think any have been any good.

You can build a team around a core small group of elite talent but it’s very hard to build success around middle of the road players.

I think SOS did a good job to turn 1 pick into 2 and still get the desired player. Whether their end picks were any good still remains to be seen. As I understand neither player will see 2020 action.

My guess the latter. We clearly tried to trade our pick down. Hartley was on two calls at once with a minute left to pick.

I also reckon SOS the deal maker tried to get de Koning but the Cats cut their lunch too. They reached even more that we did with Philp.
Seems interesting that Carlton traded picks to get from 22 to 20 to pick Philp, since they traded with port who clearly didn't want him (or they wouldn't have traded) they could have simply taken him with 22, unless they had intel that Richmond wanted him since we were the only club in-between. I dont know anything about him but my mate on the Carlton boards suggested that Philp and his family are big Richmond people and that Carlton's info was that we were looking at him. Hope it was a smokescreen and the 2 years in a row they have jumped in before us leaves them looking stupid forever.

Yeah it was a bit odd for Carlton to move up from 22 to 20 and lose their lower pick (51 I think it was). Only possible reason they'd do this is they thought Richmond were into Philp and they desperately wanted him. Philp and Dow do seem like similar players.

Just saying what I read in the paper today and they reported that they had him marked a lot higher. I haven't read anywhere that we were trying to trade our pick but didn't have enough time. Where'd you hear this out of interest? Really the only clubs we could have swapped with would have been Adelaide (now picks 24 and 25) which would have been unlikely for the sake of 3 spots or with North (28, 29, 32). Not sure we really needed an extra pick though.

We were looking to trade for later picks (in 20's and 30's) according to the draft after show streamed on afl.com with Callum Twomey & co

That would make some sense seeing Dow would probably have been around a bit later, I reckon North's 29 & 32 would have been the target for our 21 & and pick 38, (or whatever that becomes).

Yeah possibly, North are well placed with their 2nd rounders.

I watched the Twomey streamed show but very soon after the last pick ended so did the stream. Was there an after show later on? The only possibilities for swapping 2 for 1 would have been North (28,29,32) and Swans (27,34)

Maybe if we still have a player in the low 30s in mind we could trade 40,41 for North's 29 or 32 or for Brisbane's 31 or Melbourne's 30 (they're next pick after 30 is 74).

Sounded as though it would be part of a package with one of our 40 picks

There body language was first relief and then joy. Hartley threw the pen down because their was no need to consider the trade offers being discussed when SOS did another Stocker and left Dow on the board.

incorrect.
Blair threw the texta down after his 2 phone conversation during our deliberation time which clearly starts once the team before you has locked in their pick. In this case, Blair clearly knew who Carlton had chosen.
I am, however, totality unsure of what was happening whereas you seem very confident you know what went on.
You are either psychic or have great intel. I hope you’re not just creating facts to suit the narrative.

Is there still a chance we look to trade out our 2020 1st for a pick in the mid/late 20's in this draft?

Yes but don't hold out hope. It would need to be 2020 1st rounder and pick 40 for pick 30 to get anyone interested.

2020 1st rounders are about as popular as Dodoro on the last day of trade week.

If we were heavily in to stocker and Philp you’ve got to wonder why (if) our club feels the need to tell them before the draft. It’s just plain dumb If it’s happening. Just don’t tell no one nothing and if you really have to tell them, let them know SOS will be swooping in if they open their gobs which should keep them quiet.

And furthermore (insert old man with walking stick old school Pre emoji here, please bring them all home mr t) if anyone on here really knows who we are into DON’T BLOODY POST IT!

Clearly no-one does. Didn't see too many post that we were into Dow. Even Twomey who picked quite well was totally blindsided by that one.

There is a pre round 2 pick trade period between 4pm and 6pm to assist in speeding up the draft tonight.

All clubs will be made aware of any pick trades as they occur so clubs are on the same page with the draft order. Trades will become official at 7pm.
