David Astbury, Thank You

Dave is proving to be McGovern-like in the air.

We are desperate for more contested marks i50.

I'd give Dave a month at true CHF. It gives him 30 seconds umpire protection to make a decision too.

I dont have his replacement down back, but its out of Garthwaite, Elton or Kmac I spose?

Youve got to use a modicum of creativity after 4 straight gurglers. Dont Ya?

Good point. I wonder if anyone else noticed how GWS deliberately left him alone in the back 50m when we had possession. He takes a mountain of time to dispose of the pill, invariably kicks it high down the line and turned it over five times yesterday - four directly to an unopposed GWS player.
A Kellaway disease. Very contagious, noone wants to go near you when you have the ball.

Dave has his flaws but he's in career best form. Without looking at stats, would be one of the best intercept marks in league.

If we offloaded him to Brisbane, we would be relying on 18 year old Garthwaite. We still might have to if we cop an injury. Really no other key defenders coming through of any note. Just like key forwards!

Yes but Hunt, Morris and big Ivan

Thought he was going to get towelled up at half time. Played out the match well I thought.

Best mark in our team. Has his weaknesses but for balance absolutely vital

Has been great this year. Was great tonight. His teammates trust him. Featured in a number of effective handball chains, marking was top notch and composure generally was good.

Coming on fast as a very good player. Imperious in the air, reliable spoiling on a lead, courageous, and has a touch of Kipling about him these days.

He's been fantanstic this year. I love the work he's doing in defence with Rance as a team (probably add Grimes too that too)..

But

He would also be the answer to our 2nd tall forward problem the way he's marking the ball at the moment. Is it worth bringing in say Grathwaite and moving Dave forward?

No, not yet. I doubt Garthwaite is ready to handle the power forwards of the AFL yet. Would be pushed aside too easily in marking contests, giving away 10kgs+ to experienced and seasoned AFL KPFs
