Damien Hardwick

The final memory is a cross goal dump kick from Fatguts Stringer and a grumpy presser. Pity.

I’m really disappointed he isn’t coaching this weekend. I think it is a mistake and seems to be his call.
We would have packed the G to say goodbye

You reckon they'll ever get the microphone set up right at AFL press conferences?!
FFS how hard is it to put a mic over the people asking questions?
One way traffic!

We can still pack the G out this Sunday and after the final siren, win or loss, we start the Dimma chant and keep it going

He doesn't need to be coaching for that though. I'm sure they could present him on field prior to the start of the game for a good bye lap of honour of the G.

Something will be organised at a later date according to the letter to members by John O'Rourke

It is a measure of the man that he has made this decision in what he sees as the best interests of the Club. Selflessness is one of his great qualities and for that Damien is and always will be revered as a Richmond man.

While Damien won’t coach this weekend, we will look for an opportunity for members and supporters to thank him for everything he has given the Club at a later date.

Let’s not continue to peddle the narrative that he should be coaching one last game. It’s not always about us.
He’s gone out on his terms, doing what he truely believes is the best thing for the football club.
Few get to leave on their own terms and history will show that this was a Masterclass in classy handovers and parting in the best possible way.
We’ve come such a long way under this man.
Forever indebted

The Last Dance comment pricked my attention. He was gone regardless at the end of this year.

And burnout and feeling like you have no energy, a knot in your stomach, and everything is too hard is a horrible feeling. It's real.

And the AFL not raising the sot cap after COVID, not back to the levels of the past but an increase, is diabolical.

The deed is done and Hardwick left on his own terms, for better or worse, which will be talked about endlessly for weeks to come.

If the club as a whole is strong enough, and I believe it is, then Hardwicks departure can be seen as a great opportunity for his interim replacement and the playing group. I see opportunity and a much needed coaching reboot for the players and the fans.

Yep. Gives the club a proper length of time to get the right process happening and hunt down the best possible replacement.
Richmond ain’t Essington.

I for one can fully understand his feelings about giving the coaching gig away.
I my past life with the company I was with, had the same burnt out mindset.
Decided to give up after so many years of dedicated service to the company and retired.
So, fully understand why he has decided to leave.
