Curtains for Richo?

Riewoldt has improved without Richo there. You're blind if you can't see that.

Really? Still can't kick for *smile*. May as well nickname him Nick.

Any improvement Rielwoldt is experiencing is natural improvement that comes with experience and age .... Which he still would have got with Matty out there ... On the wing.

hardwick will follow in the steps of Malcom blight and end many careers, but age wont be his only excuse...

There are still plently to go before the Richo man...but if Hard as nails is true to his word...I will shed a tear but understand

Can't agree more with you there.

I think Cousins is the perfect player to keep on board during a rebuild.

A young team needs a leader, someone they can all look up to and aspire too. Cousins has the best work ethic I have ever witnessed from a Tiger player - ever.

Not only that, but he's won a premiership and a brownlow medal, so can lead by example. He can also fill a need on the field, without affecting the development of any other players.

I can't say the same about Richo as much as I love him.

Yep

You're kidding yourself if you think Richo is going to be able to play on the wing in 2010. 2 years since '08 and another serious injury. Time to go for the big man, all over. Wouldn't be surprised to see him come and out retire at his own will in a week or 2 even before seriously discussing it with Hardwick.

Agree, sorry big fella but its over....
Thanks for the memories. I am 35 years old and he has given me so much joy watching him galavant on the field especially 95 before he went down so cruelly. Still reckon we would have won the flag if he a Wigney hadnt got injured in Sydney.
Culturally, a statement has to be made.

Richo was still our best player this year before he got injured. Forcing him into retirement for "cultural" reasons would leave a stain on his career. He would be remembered for being "part of the problem" - an obscene insult to a man who's given everything to this club.

If the doctors think he'll have chronic issues with his body that will require him to be mollycoddled, with a fair chance of breaking down permanently, that's a different scenario entirely.

Simple fact is, if these kids are good enough, they will be good enough. Blaming Richo for hindering the development of spuds who struggle to get out of Coburg is serioulsy ridiculous.

The ONLY way I'd accept this is if we sent him off to Footscray to kick a ton and win a Norm Smith next season.

Why do people want to retire Matty? Because he's considered 'old'.

Line up all the players on our senior list and decide who should be delisted, based on their ability to contribute to the team next season. Does Matty fall into the top 15, top 20 of the group of players who should be delisted? No.

Simple fact is, Matty deserves to go around again, and if Hardwick wants to be known as the guy who cost a team half it's members ... That's precisely what will happen if Matty is forcibly retired, and other outright SPUDS kept on the list.

& let's cut the "Oh but he will hinder our forwards development" - If these sh!t trucks (Sarge, Clever etc) were any good ... They'd still be kicking goals whether Matty is out there ... on the wing ... or not.

If someone like McMahon is kept ahead of Richo because Hardwick wants to join the "Let's cull the old fellas simply because they are old" brigade ... FMD

Brilliant post :clap :clap :clap :clap

Ben is still able to play in the midfield 2 years on after ripping the hamstring off the bone...

FWIW I hope you had a packet of tissues to clean up the mess on your screen once you heard Hardwick had the job and your crusade was able to continue on...

Tha'ts of course if you've cleaned up the stains from the sheer joy you had the day he got injured at Coburg...

Ben isn't halfway to 40 years of age. He will break down/lose form just like they all do around 32/33. It's just natural.

Totally and utterly irrelevant.

But thank you for admitting the real truth behind why you want Richo gone.

It has nothing to do with Matty's ability to contribute to the team, it has nothing to do with development of the spuds on our list ... It is solely to do with how old he is.

Why you people are so *smile* obsessed with fielding a team of under 21's that will have 250 points put on them week after week after week is beyond me.

How old the man is, is c ompletely irrelevant. If we keep a McMahon and force Richo out based solly on his age.... The club will have a seriously hard time winning me back.

Hardwick is his own man and if he has the balls to end a career if he thinks its vital then at long last we have a coach who has a direction and will not follow the ideals of the media and supporters. he has been entrusted to LEAD this rabble for three years and if he has to stand on toes to get ahead good on him. He has a mandate for the future and if it means ending the big fella along with other then so be it. There has been way too much sentimental garbage at this club and thats one reason why we are the worst performed club in the AFL and the only club NOT to have played in a final since Adam was a boy.

Agree. Sentiment has no place in the AFL yet some supporters disagree.

So any young player that gets injured ... We'll retire them too yes?

You seriously can't comprehend what he was trying to say?
