Saw a couple of things comparing the so-called Big 4 of Smith, Root, Kohli and Williamson and their number of 100s in wins and other stats.
I've always had Root and Williamson below Smith and Kohli.
Williamson averages 55 in Tests, but just 35 against Australia, 36 against England and 37 against India. He averages 82 against Bangladesh, 78 against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, 66 v Pakistan, 62 versus South Africa and 60 v West Indies.
Root averages 49 in Tests. 40 v Australia but 57 (although falling this series) against India. He's played two Tests each against Bangladesh and Ireland, averaging 24 and 29 respectively. Against everyone else he averages 46 or more. Pretty solid.
Smith averages 57. Sure, he averages 124 against the Windies, but also 65 v India and 56 v England, Apart from an average of 29 in two Test v Bangladesh (Williamson has played 8, for 4 100s), his lowest average against any country is just under 45 v South Africa. He's made 21 of his 32 100s against England (12) or India (9). Root has made 14 of his 31 against India (10) or Australia (4), with 5 each against NZ and WI. Of Williamson's 31, 10 have come against England (4), India (4) and Australia (2).
And Kohli. Averages 49, with 29 100s. Averages 47 against Australia (8 100s) and 42 v England (5 100s). His best average is 67 against Sri Lanka, while other than England his lowest is 45 v NZ.
