Cricket

Jeez, he played it so poorly. It was pitching well outside off stump and he's ducked early & taken his eyes off it. Unliucky it didn't bounce as high as he maybe expected but that looked like a No. 11 playing a short ball.

I imagine bowlers will continue to challenge him with the short ball.

Very sad to see it happen again.

His problem has always been a very poor technique against short pitched bowling. He takes his eyes of the ball & just ducks. It should have been addressed many years ago when he was a junior. Terribly sad because in all other aspects he's pretty good.

Ducking is fine. Many players put the hook shot away, crazy he wasn't pulled up earlier if that's the way he has been for years.

Sidenote: Always fun when Tasmania embarrass the Vics,

Number 1) Roll them for 106 with Leysy's bowlers of the year Gabe Bell taking 4-21

Number 2) Tasmania are 9-154 then put on 153 for the 10th wicket to make 307 bahaha.

Note: The most underrated first class cricketer in Australia got Handsomb and Short for ducks then scored 167 from 180 balls of Tasmania's 307.

Some red ball player is Beau Webster.

Big chase for Victoria tomorrow.
Yes, it's looking like a full embarrassment for someone.

Ducking is fine if you watch where the ball is going, ducking & hoping is a recipe for injury, too many modern players have a defective technique against short pitched bowling. Imo its due to the introduction of helmets, leading to a false sense of security by batsmen/women (persons, whatever floats you boat)

I was an opener for many years (in a lower grade). It was drummed into me from a ver young age to always watch the ball & play it on its merits. Never wore a helmet & NEVER got hit on the head. Sure I got hit on the body but not on the scone.

I'm not sure it's a false sense of security as much as a restricted range of vision. Peripheral vision up and to the sides is blocked and they lose sight of the ball. Trying to be side-on at all times is a recipe for getting pinned as well. Like Bradman and Sobers said, when you go back (and across) you square up. You're in a better position to hook, duck or sway in either direction and if you have to defend the ball you have greater range of motion to ride the bounce.

On Pucovski. Reckon a lot are being very harsh on his coaching and technique.

They haven't caused his concussion issues ILO.

He was a solid player of the short ball early on. Unfortunately he is just pre-disposed to concussion and it has got to a stage his confidence is shot and he is mentally worried more about them than playing the ball. Hence the way he played it today.

Remember this is a guy who concussed himself at home walking into a door. That is not normal.

Nor is it a cricket technique issue.
It’s day 3 bud.

What. LOL. OK game on. Tas still in box seat. bahaha

Big write up on him in the Hun a few days back. Concussion was supposed to not be his problem. Something to do with his mental reaction every time he gets sconed due to the fact that he'd had a very big concussion way back years ago as a young kid. Mentally reacts with ongoing concussion symptoms whenever he gets a tap on the head regardless of whether he's actually medically concussed or not. Supposedly did a bunch of counselling n mind training with some guru n was all cured. Didn't look very cured on the news.

Quite an impressive innings by Webster. Carted the Vic attack all over the park including a six onto the grandstand. He bowls and takes wickets as well. But probably no chance of coming under notice for Australian selection though as:
- it's Sheffield Shield - he's not from NSW - we already have Marsh and Green all-rounders

Awesome win by Tasmania. Near certainties to host the Shield Final now.

He's turned into a very very good cricketer. But not a great time to be a red-call allrounder pushing for national honours.

Everyone seems to love a whinge about NSW on this thread.

The selectors are George Bailey (Tas). Tony Dodemaide (Vic) Andrew McDonald (Vic).

Another failure by Jake Fraser-McGurk yesterday with 2. He now averages under 20 in first class cricket (19.7)
