Cricket

Send Head and Carey out to open and tell them to both go the Gary Cosier.
Agreed, or Starc, as another poster suggested; he should be made to earn his tour somehow. Just need a batsmen or two to get a quickfire 30 runs.

[What was the selectors thinking? Sending 2 bowlers who were unfit for half the tests with Starcy still struggling with his finger. And Agar who was sent packing without bowling a ball. Tell me Boland wouldn't have bowled at least as well as Cummins previous test, and as effectively as Starc (or Green who was hardly used) in this one. Then there's Michael Neser or the young WA speedster who I think could have been quite handy in these conditions in India]

I reckon it is going to be a nervous day. We wouldn’t want to lose early wickets.
The opening partnership is key for me. If Head can make a few reasonably quickly and Khawaja hang around we should be ok.
We have a very long tail.

Yep, suddenly it seems 5 out, all out.
Spinners offer very little with the bat.

Smith should be restored to the captaincy. He's been outstanding.
He's the logical choice. He's a cricket nuffie. As Leysy suggested it's almost like the extra responsibility has locked in his engagement.

He paid a heavy price for a brain fade. Reckon he learnt his lesson.

We would have been lost without him over the past decade. Irreplaceable with no one near his capabilities.

Has taken 19 of our countries 42 wickets this series. HUGE.
Talk about exaggeration. It's one of the first times he has produced in the second innings when everything is usually in his favour. His 2nd innings bowling is "poor" when compared to his contempories. You are letting one innings on a disastrous pitch go to your head.

Lyon must be Tasmanian.

Reckon Green might be crucial to our chances of winning today. He looked the most comfortable of our batters against the spinners, a shame he wasn't fit for the first 2 tests.

His contemporaries like Ashwin and Jadeja, who bowl on these pitches all the time, while you damn him for not rolling teams out on the Adelaide Oval?

In the third innings of Test matches:
Lyon: 119 wickets at 28.43, strike rate 56.96

In the fourth innings:
Lyon: 107 wickets at 28.48, strike rate 61.15

Mitch Perry from Victoria looks to have to potential to be a handy allrounder, he got 4 wickets in the first innings, and came in last night as night watchman and is currently 42 not out, he scored 75 a few weeks ago against QLD.

Really liking the way the Vics are promoting youth (although where's Maxi?). Very NSW of us, while they persist with mid-30s types like Henrique and, Hughes,

Maxi injured again and put on ice for the upcoming ODIs.

No no no.

He has failed on advantageous tracks numerous times. In Aust and out of Aust. He's had the advantage of bowled in tandem with some elite fast bowlers. Not many other of his contempories have enjoyed such luck. And I'm not comparing him to those 2 alone.

He's a good bowler with seredipitous timing. Admire his longevity.

Compare his 4th innings work to other offies from all countries. And not just in india on goat tracks (I don't recall Inidan pitches being prepared as poorly as the ones in this series especially). Almost all have a significantly better 4th innnings averages. Lyon's is barely better than his overall average.

Trying to find current players that have played at least 30 odd tests.

Jack Leach averages under 22 in 4th innings compared to 34 overall
Ish Sodhi averages 34.87 in 4th innings compared to 43 overall
Maharaj averages 18 in 4th innings compared to 32 overall

They aint bowling in India every week.

Maybe Lyon has time left to improve those numbers.
