Cricket

Interestingly the one man who would have definitely played (and likely well) but is out injured is Jon Holland.

No Green or Starc - still out injured. Kuhnemann debuts. Cummins the only pace bowler.

Interesting selections.

Head takes Renshaws place.

Important toss to win again and won it. Helps with selections bowling last.
Yes indeed.
Thought Starcy was in earlier in the week.
Also this means the second over of our bowling innings will be spin, unless they expect Marn to bowl seam up for 1-2 overs at the start.
This could be a really short test match.

Yeh, only a pom would call it aggressive as they come. It was exactly what 99% of teams would do.

What is inarguable is how great the Poms attacking mindset and style of cricket is.

The stats don't really back that up though. It was the 2nd earliest declaration in test history. Most teams would have most likely looked at it and gone, "there are 4 days left", we'll bat out what we can and see if we can scrape up from 325 to 350+. Thats history, its what tells us what most teams mentalities would have been.

To claim that 99% of teams would have declared its frankly rubbish. Sure "some" may have decided to be a bit more aggressive, but history tells you that you are wrong and most teams would have continued to bat, knowing they had so much time left in the test match.

It was a good declaration set up by good attacking batting.
It may have been the 2nd earliest declaration in test history, but you have to factor in that it's day/night pink ball cricket. In all of the, day/night test matches that have been played, which is not many, all teams declare in the final session, which is what England did.

Warner just does not move his feet when the ball is on the stumps

I’m not a fan of Warner, but he needs to live by the sword. Played his best cricket being aggressive but now looks a shadow of that man.

I've only just turned it on, doesn't look like the right wicket to have 3 spinners and one quick.

Siraj has Warner hopping.

Edit: Although Ashwin just turned one a foot!

That's the way Khawaja, take it up to the spinners, you're a sitting duck playing in your crease.

Gotta show aggression as every ball brings you closer to a doozy. Hopefully we can ride our luck and at least put 300 on the board

Khawaja has the right idea there, I reckon.

Get after Ashwin and the other spinners. The Aussie guys always used to try and get after Harjaban Singh because he had a big ego and would get seriously pissed off when Hayden or Gilchrist were sweeping him hard. I reckon Ashwin is a bit the same.

If you don't they are eventually going to knock you off, better to get 30 off 40 than 5 before you get out.

Warner was considering batting right handed, at times, before the first test......I'll give you the tip Davey, you won't look any worse than what you do at the moment.

Having said that I hope he can stick around for awhile.

David Warner considering batting right-handed to combat ‘straight up pitch doctoring’ by Indian curators.

What was the point of taking Agar to India if he doesn’t play in this test?
Left arm orthodox, same as Kuhneman, and can bat at 8 given our long tail.
If he isn’t good enough in these circumstances then why pick him for the tour?

Yeh. And why take two injured bowlers/players who would not be available for the first two tests? Wouldn't they be better rehabbing at home?

It smacks of not being very well prepared with a plan.
