Just turned on the test, geez that is one very green looking wicket. Not sure who won the toss but it is proving treacherous, and just as I type that Smith is out. The poms bowled very well in Melbourne so they are clearly capable, bowl well on this pitch and the rewards will come.

Poms sent us in.... could be all out before our girls take to PRO tonight!

The pitch is an embarrassment for Tassie.
It is bright green and unplayable.
Game will be over in two days.
What a disappointment.

And Crawley dropped Labuschagne at 2nd slip.
Labuschagne is ranked the best batsmen in the world, certainly the luckiest, always seems to get dropped a couple of times each innings.

He only gets caught from half the chances he gives. The average is 85%.

Now we see what Head's made of. A good no.5 makes runs in these situations.

I reckon the high amount of rain in the last 2 weeks in Hobart has had that effect. I doubt they planned for it to be this green

Yeah the pitch is not good but don't think the ground keepers had much say in this, just stuck with the weather dished out by the La Nina. England are bowling well but I reckon if they had batted they would be in a similar situation. Imagine facing Cummins, Starc and Boland on this pitch . . . or don't imagine, it looks like we'll see it later today.

Its going to be interesting to see if they get the same movement.

This is a very "English" wicket and there is a reason why most English bowlers bowl between 125 and 135 km/ hr and thats because you bowl that much quicker in English conditions and you get much lower amounts of movement in the air particularly but also off the wicket. Robinson at his high 120's getting the most movement so far, so interesting to see if at 140 they still get the same movement or whether it plays a bit straighter.

Looking at the pitch, it does look perfect for Boland, not sure about someone like Starc on this wicket. Green may also be a weapon on this wicket.

Have had big doubts on Head up until last summer. Saw him get quick fire 100 in a shield game followed by another 100 in Marsh Cup game a couple of days later, he won me over then.

Just as I type that the commentators bring it up, as this is the 1st test of the series that Wood doesn't look overly dangerous, may just be a bit too quick for this pitch.

He'll win me over if he makes runs today.

Great little counter-attacking partnership (albeit a spot of luck for each, which you need) but have to say Wood and Woakes have not maintained the standard set by Broad and Robinson.

Woods bowled the same as he has in the other tests but its not a wicket for that.

Woakes has been absolute garbage today. I text a friend earlier and say if Woakes can't take wickets on this pitch then he should be shunted to the "never again" bucket for England. Imagine Anderson in Woakes spot.

Sat down in time to watch the start of play, so missed the lead up to it, i.e. ins and outs and why.
What's the reason Anderson isn't playing, I just assumed he must've been a bit sore. It's ludicrous if he has been dropped.

Mr Port Out Starboard Home Man I do agree that medium pace is more successful in England and this is looking more like English conditions. But the Aus bowlers have been bowling accurately and will be more than a handful, even Starc if he is better than he was in Sydney. I don't think anyone will be happy facing accurate bowling on this pitch.

Nice partnership so far from Labuschagne and Head, not only some good shots but some good leaves as well. Unless you are looking to score many balls need to be left well alone in these conditions.

Not saying they will be easy, as their line and length (particularly Cummins and Boland) has been relentless, but potentially could be a bit too quick to get the movement off the wicket that Robinson and Broad have got, but particularly Woakes has bowled all over the pitch (which its pretty clear the Aussies won't do) which has helped to score, but Mark Woods pace and little movement has been relatively easy to score against and thats the risk for the Aussie bowlers.

I assume he's sore, but I'd always take a half fit and sore Anderson over the dud that is Woakes.

Woakes bowling average outside of England is 55!! He's played 17 tests and 501 overs so hardly a small sample size either.
