Cricket

It's going to be interesting to see what the crowds are like for the AFL next year. Most people will be double jabbed and a lot will have had the booster.
I won't be surprised if the crowds are down quite a bit.
True.
Big Bash = AFLX
True.
Big Bash is becoming irrelevant the novelty has been wearing off the past 3 years and is now nigh on worn off.r

Cowd's are sheizenhausen, and Covid's really helping to kill it off faster than it was already dying naturally.

It has become something easy to watch on TV and the effort and cost to go arent worth it especially with current imposts.

Not to mention its 4 hours of non stop noise assault from ground announcers and music that is a real grind.
True. Just watching as it's the only live local on TV. Sad.

Interesting as you say tm.

I'm tipping crowds will be down somewhat for a little while yet until many people have faith that things will be somewhat returned to what we all knew.

The stench and the overhanging Sword of Damocles of Covid will keep quite a few people away from big gatherings for a while yet, and with all the constant uncertainty, I don't blame them.

But we will see.

Was that when Gilly and Langer had that big partnership?

Yeah - Aust were in big trouble, I think 5 for not much going into the last day so it was a matter of when not if they lost the test, but Langer and Gilly just kept on scoring runs, and it was amazing to watch Pakistan slowly self destruct out on the ground. I thought it would be over just after lunch but little did I know.

The power of test cricket- you can’t beat it I reckon.

Yes, I love test cricket too.

I think that was Gilly's 2nd test match, not a bad start to his test career.

When Gilchrist went in we were 5/126 chasing 369 for victory.
At stumps on day 4 we were 5/188.
They put on 238 - Langer fell at 364.
Yes, it is the ninth highest successful run chase in Test history.
At the time, it was third.
And yes, it was Gilchrist's second Test.

Outside Australia, the game is more famous for this incident during the chase:

I remember watching that game. Thought we were gone for all money, then started counting down the runs as Gilly and Langer chased it.

If the first game was this week I don't think I would go. Let's see what happens in 3 months time but it will be interesting

Prior to Covid, I went to pretty much every home game. I went once in 2021. I will still go sometimes, but I doubt I will go every game.
I dont think I want to be in big crowds, and 2 years off, watching on TV has sort of broken the habit.

Maybe we should start a new thread abut attending games, but I will certainly be going to the footy. There will be some who will go less often because of crowds and the like, and some who will go more often because of missing the live experience. I don't think the AFL will see the massive crowds they are touting, I reckon they are mis-reading the situation. They are just so arrogant that they think if crowds are allowed to return they will just appear. Mind you, they don't care as crowds are just decoration for the TV coverage as far as they are concerned. This is how you kill the game, by not looking after the core supporters, interest can be lost, but the AFL can't seem to see this.

This is a very salient point Brodders.

Interests and focus or simply priorities have shifted for many, and most people have learned to do without over the past 2 years in regard to many things.

That incident came up regularly in the rooms over a few beers and JL absolutely refused to ever concede he hit it, always insisting it was the bat handle creaking.

It took until 10 years later when channel 9 developed snicko and put the vision through it for him to confess. One of the all time great commitments to not walking.
Fancy not even admitting it to your teammates. Elite honesty, eh JL.

They've got umpires, snicko, slo mo, G spot n reviews. If no one calls you out, keep batting.

Never walk.

Cop enough dodgy *smile* decisions as a batsman without giving your wicket away. As the Masochist said, if they can‘t see it’s out with the tech they have, then tough.

Yet Broad was castigated for doing that exact thing by most of the aussie public a few years ago. Seems its ok for Langer but not ok for someone not Australian

There was a slight difference, Broad's was a lot more blatant, he knicked off to first slip, Langer's was a caught behind.

Broad was entitled to not walk, and while technically the same, Broad's was a poor look because it was so obvious.

The most extraordinary thing about the Broad one is that standing his ground even crossed his mind.
He might as well have driven the ball straight to mid-off and waited for the umpire to give him out.

As for Langer and honesty, check this one out ... and watch it to the end. It ain't Ponting!
