Cricket

So, we have an out of form bating line up and . . . how many shield games to get players back in form? Yeah, none from what I heard in the commentary. Bloody stupid.

Test cricket is the most important form of the game, if players are just playing big bash they are not going to develop the skills needed in test cricket. Less big bash, more shield cricket.

Agree but there are players playing in the BB who retain skills and a mental attitude that keep them ready for a call up. Unfortunately it isn't going to happen for him but Glen Maxwell is such a player.

Maxwell can take a test away from the opposition, just like Gilchrist used to. I think Green if given the license to, has the ability to do the same.

And it's hard to blame them with the crazy money on offer in the IPL.

I worry about future generations when they have grown up with T20 and see it as a usual part of the game, and a more prominent one than test cricket. We are probably lucky that the time zone prevents us from seeing the IPL as much, it is an amazing tournament, like the Olympics of cricket and the atmosphere is something else.

When you can live that experience and make more money in three months than you would for 12 at home, it's always going to be hard to compete.
And Cricket Aust are going to have to keep on their toes for years to come. Australia has to work out how best to "exploit" the rivers of money that will continue to grow as Indias GDP expands. Cricket cannot win a money war. But sport needs rivalries so we should make sure that we are Indias no 1 rivals (after Pakstan! But they rarely play) The ashes alone aren't enough.

No, the Sydney test should be played in Melbourne.

I reckon everything should be in Melbourne in 2021.

Wimbledon, The Olympics, The Tour de France, The Super Bowl, The F.A Cup final, AFL interstate games, The Gabba Grand final.

I still feel Melbourne's pain of missing the premiership.

Finally at least at the 12th hour the NSW Gov has had the sense to mandate masks for the test.
Still I wouldn't be going. Could sit & watch a game of footy but no way I'd be at the Cricket all day in a mask with the number of cases they have.

He has a very unique personality and style that I think would be quite hit and miss. He's very passionate and big on the Steve Waugh style of naked patriotism and baggy green love, but he is also highly technical.

He would almost certainly be more effective with a 'cricket nerd' style player, who lives, eats and breathes cricket I would say, someone like Warne would have hated playing under him.

Probably why a player like Labuschagne is thriving under him but someone like Maxwell not so much.
Well said, I’m not convinced he’s managed young talent real well either, Im not sure the harder to get out of then get in mantra is the best idea

I don't think many batsmen have thrived under him as batting coach or head coach, Marnus and Smith may be the only 2.
Smith‘s bubble may have burst too.

I haven’t watched a lot of cricket in recent years , however imho so many of our batsman seem nervous and tentative at the crease and so often dismissed for what appears to be a lack of patience

Well you got your wish! Warner looked injured and seemed to decide to just throw the bat after reinjuring.

Batting order looks a lot better I reckon.

Warner already out though, when will our openers find consistency and rhythm?

Didn't think Warner was the answer.
Too full of himself, sees himself as the saviour.

Blocker Wilson and Pistol Reiffel stare dumbly for half an hour at a damp patch of grass you could cover with a thigh-pad before someone wonders if one of those leaf-blower things might help move things along. They're about a decade behind park cricket.
