Real talk, this batting unit has been brittle for 3-4 years. Costs us time and again. Poor concentration, shot selection, sure, but Wade Head and Burns just aren’t good enough.

100% agreed, problem is Langer and the selectors giving in to his preference for his favourites over in form and better talented batsmen. It is mind boggling that Head is being talked about as a future captain and Burns has just shown he should only ever be a fill in.

The Paine decision. What is their procedures? Surely if hot spot and snicko say such opposite things, you go with the on-field umpire? Or is one of the technology elements enough for "conclusive proof" to overturn?

They were talking about this on the SEN commentary. The procedure is snicko overrides everything, I assume there may be some evidence behind this procedure but they didn't mention that.

Burns should only ever be a net bowler ;)
I noticed Bancroft, didn't play for the Scorchers last night, I hope Langer's not going to rush him into the test side. He hasn't been getting runs in the BBL so he'd be a chance going by Langer's selection criteria.
Apart from 1 good session in Adelaide, Australia has been outplayed in the series.

Agree. If the margin of error is up to half a ball, they shouldn’t be using it. Just go with the technology - if it’s hitting, it’s out.
One of the edicts of cricket decision making has been since WG Grace that the batsmen gets the benefit of the doubt. The into of technology has thrown that out of the window.

Burns will be extinguished.

Head’s shot was terrible. Terrible. Not convinced by him at all.

Wade up the top? In fact, Wade at all in our Test six? Yeah nah. He’s compact and diligent but is he Test level? Really? I don’t see it. Not if we wanna stay at the top of the tree through the Ashes into 2022.

Depth is *smile* to be honest. Should we continue with mediocre plodders who’ll struggle to average 40 at test level?

Might be time to give Harris (a guy who can actually hold an end despite his limitations) and Warner the opening slots in the 3rd test. Reverse the laughable Hail Mary they tried with the opening pair for the first two.

Yeah I know, Harris is a bit *smile*. But we just need someone to survive the new ball at the moment. 40 off 90 odd is fine if Warner gets going.

I would also blood Pucovski (when he’s ready) at five when the ball is softer.

Harris
Warner
Labs
Smith
Pucovski
Green

A solid top four with youth finding experience before the Ashes. This is the long term setup but I concede JL doesn’t coach this way.
Pucovski's had how many concussions? Bloke needs to start thinking about another career or he's going to end up very unwell. Great talent but the risk to his health is too great to be exposing him to more risk.

The test cricket win-win-win scenario for this punter. Bit gloomy here at the G, but having backed India at $7.80 prematch, I just had some on Australia at $2.56 and the draw at $23 to lock in a guaranteed profit no matter what. That's how you do it!

good punting Spook. Yeah if you can get big odds in a 2 horse race, and your horse is competitive, you can treat the bookies bag like your garden.

Im really happy you and everyone is back at The G too.

yep, unfortunately the bloke gets in in the head far too many times facing pie chuckers, imagine him facing top class Test bowlers

Aussies haven't passed 200 in the series, don't look likely here either.

Seven just showed graphic, highest score in last 6 test Australia v. India, Marcus Harris 79, 2 years ago. That doesn't look like changing either.

Agree on Pucovski, too much risk.

Every time I see Bumrah I get that old Plastic Bertrand song in my head:

‘Jasprit Bumrah, ooo-ooo-woo-ooo...’

Drives me mad.

Done and dusted.
Australia's batting is rubbish and I don't think Warner is going to make much difference.

Horse *smile*. Plenty of batsman have had to adjust techniques over the journey. I remember the coach, no less, going through the same thing.

Pucovski will play at some point and the head knocks won’t be an issue.

But run a line through his career by all means

OK, sorry to have an opinion, yes the kid can play ( at lower level at least) but you dont think getting hit that many times is a concern ?

And exactly how many times did JL get hit in the head in Shield Cricket & how many concussions ?

I do recall a concussion in TEst Cricket

JL took as bad a concussion as I've ever seen first ball he faced in his 100th test in South Africa. Ntini hit him right behind the ear, not all that far away from the spot Phil Hughes exposed as deadly.

By the time he reached the rooms he was as white as his shirt and I'm not sure he ever really recovered fully and retired after the next series at home. Mind you it didn't stop him trying to fight everyone in the sheds to bat in the second innings which was hairy given he is a black belt in a couple of martial arts.

Pucovski is a hard one because in amongst all the unknowns of concussion, there is knowledge that the more you are concussed the more likely you are to be concussed again, and the more concussions you have, the greater the impact and the worse the ramifications for your long term health.

He's not a boxer but he is playing a sport where opponents spend a fair bit of time trying to hit you in the head, and if they succeed the impact is fierce. I suspect the advice being given to him now would be that the situation is a concern to say the least.
Yep against a world class bowler at age 35 or 36, Pucovski gets hit in the head by Shield bowlers at an age when his reflexes should be at their sharpest

Yeah JL had his fair share. He loves telling the story of his first ball in test cricket when Ian Bishop hit him flush and Boony told him to retire hurt.

He has a lot of issues even now with migraines, balance issues and tinnitus which are highly likely linked to all the knocks he took over his career. (He's spoken about those things in public so I'm not breaking any confidences).
Pucovski is 22 and has had NINE concussions, if he was a footballer everyone would be telling him to give it up

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see him make it but ..................

I think they raise a good point. His technique against the short stuff is questionable. And as pointed out that's against domestic attacks. You watch him get peppered in a test.

I wonder if Steve Smith's rut is related to his couple of knocks? He looks pretty sus against the short stuff now.
