Cricket

One of the edicts of cricket decision making has been since WG Grace that the batsmen gets the benefit of the doubt. The into of technology has thrown that out of the window.
Technology should be eliminating any doubt.

I think they raise a good point. His technique against the short stuff is questionable. And as pointed out that's against domestic attacks. You watch him get peppered in a test.

I wonder if Steve Smith's rut is related to his couple of knocks? He looks pretty sus against the short stuff now.

I get the concern 100%, especially the data around repeated concussions.

But I firmly believe it is a technique issue.

Ricky Ponting should be permanent batting coach. Pay him what he wants.

He would set the bowling machine to head high in the nets. Again and again. He would say, rightly, to get into hooking or pulling position, then weave or go through with the shot.

The initial movement forces an extra split second of ball tracking which makes all the difference.

The critical factor is to never take the eye off the ball. Worst case is grille hit, which can be ugly but is better than around the ear / base of skull.

This is a skill that is difficult to learn, but the fact remains that some batsman do not have concussion issues.

It’s technique and one that should be researched and invested in at lower levels.

As for Pucovski, there is a hill to climb but he can still make it with some adjustment.

Also, his first and worst concussion was horsing around playing rugby if memory serves.

And exactly how many times did JL get hit in the head in Shield Cricket & how many concussions ?

I do recall a concussion in TEst Cricket

Then you weren’t watching Taz, he got into a bit of a rut there for a while

But you stopped when JL debuted it would appear
LOL, no I stopped when the Australian players led by Warner threatened to strike.

Ok, So JL got hit a couple of times / a few times ? in Test Cricket and was concussed once that I recall when he was on his last legs as a test cricketer, he was what 35 or 36 & reflexes clearly wane with age

Pucovski has been concussed NINE times , hit how many more times ?, is 22 & is yet to debut in test cricket.

FFS Carter surely you can see the difference

I did laugh yesterday, listening to news report on SEN, the reader said Pucovski has missed the last 2 tests ???

If thats the logic , he has missed the last couple of hundred tests !!

No amount of upper case numbers can change the fact that Pucovski, the team and the admin think he’s still in line to establish himself as an elite batsman.

Of course the concussions are a concern, just like Patto’s back or Paine’s finger.

But to rule a line through Pucovski right now is premature forum tripe at its best.

I'm not putting a line through him, I am concerned for his safety, laughable to suggest a minor back / finger injuries are similar to head injuries

yep, unfortunately the bloke gets in in the head far too many times facing pie chuckers, imagine him facing top class Test bowlers

Lol if this isn’t putting a line through him I dunno what is

And yes, Patto’s back and Paines finger are comparable as they are potentially career-ending for those concerned

Pucovski will play with that threat every time he walks out to bat but with the right technique he can make it

So, we have an out of form bating line up and . . . how many shield games to get players back in form? Yeah, none from what I heard in the commentary. Bloody stupid.

Test cricket is the most important form of the game, if players are just playing big bash they are not going to develop the skills needed in test cricket. Less big bash, more shield cricket.

Apparently 20/20 pays the bills.
