See ya Marto

Should never have been repicked after the last Ashes series. :p

Selectors responsible for this one.
Are you the type of person who never gets the chance to go and see a sports game (eg footy, cricket, soccer etc...)?

Must be a lonely life in Bangkok Oldie. ;D

Muay Thai kickboxing & badminton tournaments are about the size of it TF..

I do miss the live sport aspect. Thankgod for broadband & cable TV(particularly the Australia Network.

Makes it tolerable. :)
Isn't baseball a major sport in Thailand?

Re: Cricket

Game looks to be heading to a draw.Once again Ponting & Hussey show the way.Question marks continue with Martyn & Hayden wouldn't want another couple of failures or he will make way for Jaques.MCgrath should not have played as he is not 100%.Giles should have been dropped by Poms also.

Re: Cricket

Hats off to Freddie, KP and Collingwood, they have shown a ton of guts, spirit and backbone, especially Collingwood who would have to be one of the least regarded no 4 bats of all time.

Freedie geez they lift for him dont they, and KP is the man who rouses them by taking the fight up, i like his style and refusal to be intimidated.

Had the Aussies batted first the Pommies coulda well been the ones chasing down 600, but i must admit when Freddie gets it right we saw some similar dismissals re 05 ashes at the top of the Aussie line up re Hayden and Martyn. Bit concerning, the Aussies are still afraid of Freddie it seems when hes got the ball and rightly so, gees he can play.

The game should be a draw but it's still heavily in the Poms favour. With us still 230 runs behind and not much to come (Gilly is woefully out of form and you cant always rely on Warne and Lee to add valuable tail end runs) there's still the chance we could be rolled for 380-400 in the first session tomorrow and England could build a lead of 350 by days end. This would mean us having to bat out the whole of the 5th day which is never easy and very dangerous psychologically. (of course nothing I've said ,so far, that was going to happen has happened so we'll probably make 600!)

Re: Cricket

Hoggard a star with the ball today he could be the danger man tommorow. Looks like Watson could come in for Martyn. Interesting day tommorow cant wait

If we do lose this match there should be genuine changes to the team.
It'll be 1-1 & we have to win the Ashes back!

Dump Martyn forever.
Move Hussey to four he's earned it. Clarke to 5 and possibly Watson comes in at 6.

Awfully tempting to pick Jacques instead of Hayden. He failed in the last Ashes series and I see no change in the pattern here. He gets another go in the third but wouldn't want to fail there..

and pick MacGill to replace Lee or dare I say it Mcgrath...and put pressure on Warne(or relieve it).

This would be my team:

Langer
Hayden
Ponting
Hussey
Clarke
Watson
Gilchrist
Warne
Lee
Clark
MacGill

The Pommie bats look to have turned the corner against our bowlers regardless of the outcome of this test. We must change it up or run the risk of them getting on top.

Re: Cricket

Nothing can be judged by this test.

We are playing on concrete wicket that makes bowling very tough. If we make 450 in our first dig that is plenty. You would take that 9 out of 10 times. That fact that we gave up 551 is the only reason it looks small.

Martyn got out to a terrible shot, just a lazy prod. After being dumped some 12 years ago at the Adelaide oval for a lazy shot against the Windies and sent to the cricketing wilderness for 3 years it would be ironic if Martyn's last test gig was at the same ground and he got out to another lazy shot at a crucial time. Hussey to four, Clarke to five and I would blood another youngster at six. Pointing and Waugh both started at six. Watson is just too soft but I suppose needs a chance sooner or latter.

The Bowling stocks should not be judged on this test. It is a horrible wicket that only now after being baked for two days is just starting to provide minimal assistance to the bowlers.

Re: Cricket

If we bat a second time and Hayden fails then it'll be bye bye for him. Martyn has had his chances. How about we give it to the bloke who he replaced? Hodge. Lee just hasnt done enough. This is a test of the selectors. If they pick him again (assuming he doesnt rip through the Poms in the 2nd innings which i doubt he will) we need another paceman. Everyone is saying Shane Watson but I dont think he's the answer. He doesnt do enough with the ball and he's not fast enough. His batting is ok in first class cricket but he hasnt done anything in test cricket to make you think he'll be a star with the bat. I would pick Mitchell Johnson.

Langer
Jacques
Ponting
Hodge
Hussey
Clarke
Gilchrist
Warne
Clark
Johnson
McGrath
Lee (12th)

Re: Cricket

My spys tell me there was an old stager with a ridiculously long run up opening the bowling for Lower Plenty in the geriatrics comp yesterday........he also tried to hit everything out of the ground to no avail.

Described as a poor mans Damien Martyn park cricketer whos a closet Pom fan.

Guesses anyone?? ;D

I'll take the $1.01 about mb.

Re: Cricket

I'd make one change for the 3rd test.

OUT Martyn
IN Cameron White - he's in better batting form than Martyn and Hodge. Plus he adds a 2nd spinning option

And move Hussey to 4 - Clarke to 5 - and slot White in at 6.

And I'd put Hayden and Lee on notice - last chance.

Should get entertaining once those 40 degree Saturdays start.

May shorten his run-up a la Lillee and Hadlee later in their careers.

I also heard he took a vital wicket & was unlucky not to clear the fence when dismissed.

Disagree.

More pies on show than the four'n'twenty factory could muster apparently.
Top edge the only bat to be laid on the ball.

Do you want the cent paid by cash or cheque?

I think we should organize a beerfest on the boundary during one of those 40 deg days and invite Marto, Rory Hilton and Greg Miller to keep old Moth Balls 64 honest in the field, sound like fun?
