If we had the first pick we would have selected Kruezer too.

Not according to Greg Miller @ the pre draft night @ PRO,
I asked him directly Cotch or Kreuzer, he replied Cotch as you can always trade for a ruckman

Carlton didn't even rate Kreuzer the best u/18 ruckman, that honour went to Naitanui and he would have gone number 1 had he been born a few days earlier.

Taz I was on the draft table that day an was with GM an FJ at punt rd prior to going to Telstra dome...they took me thru what was going to happen that day an what predictions they had....they said we will be taking Cotchin unless by some miracle over night that the Blues had changed there mind on Kreuzer. Just for the record FJ thought we would end up with Tarrant an I reckon if we had pick 5 he would have taken Cyril, abousoultly loved him....I was amazed that day how accurate FJs predictions were....an for those that don't know GM wanted Scott Selwood not Rance

Not so sure about that. We were very keen on Cotchin. I can recall certain football commentators being critical of the fact we wanted Cotchin ahead of Kreuzer before the draft.

Cotchin had been at the club during the year and testes to have the big tank needed to be elite
Wallace saw this and wanted him. Credit where it's due, Wallace and others saw the potential and we pounced

There was a huge deliberation on draft day, it could have gone either way.

What did his niagaras have to with things?
(Unless they were already thinking ahead for future father-son prospects)

He has a tank full of balls...the biggest of them all :hihi

Kreuzer was super impressive before he did his knee. Of course I'd still take Cotchin ahead of him and am wrapped that we did pick him but it is unfair to label the Blues with 'stuffing up their pick' IMO.

Quite correct IMO.

I thought both clubs got what they needed at the time.

Just bad luck for Kreuzer that he has been injured.

GM was the only one who really wanted Selwood thought he would be Captain material an thought Rance was a smart arse, Wallace an Royal spoke highly of Rances family, but FJ was never in doubt who he was goin to take, so it was really only GM who wanted Selwood he was fuming later that TW wanted McMahon. 100% we would have taken Kreuzer if we had pick 1
