Coronavirus

Get all willing people vaccinated, then we live with it. Hopefully we see vaccination numbers make a huge increase and be opened up by the end of this year.

Not looking great in the UK, but it does beg the question as to how we get out of this.

DS
In what way? That lots of people have the flu and we’re opening up again?

I've been waiting 18months to fly back and visit my family
Going to be at least three years for me by the time next Easter rolls around. I’m starting to think even that’ll will be too soon for the Oz govt to open up.

I reckon the season's done. Empty GF at G or back in Qld.....maybe.

Probably good we tailed off this season. 3 from 4 flags are now established. Just hope 2022 doesn't make it a 3-peat of this corona sh!t.

This won't be popular, but i am of the view that footy should have a 3 week break. dump the bye, and hold the GF on Saturday October 9.

With AFL players being at exposure sites and in iso, it gives teams a disadvantage over others. It was a joke the Giants v Swans game went ahead on Sunday considering the circumstances.

The AFL seem to want to continue the season at all costs, but they need to factor in that every team deserves an even playing field.

With 2 games now scheduled in Adelaide this week, if the outbreak in gets any bigger over there, the AFL will have little choice but to call off this week’s matches IMO.

Trip to Perth for my father's 90th, need to get on to the airline to cancel :( .

sorry to hear. but if you want some advice from an experienced campaigner when it comes to cancelling flights during COVID, don’t contact the airline first. Wait for them to contact you. If you contact the airline, they will give you credit. But if they contact you advising you that your flight has been cancelled, they will give you a refund.

13 cases. we know at least 4 were in iso during infectious period, so technically better numbers.
Bit disappointed by that number. Was hoping it'd be under 10 which would be an indication the lockdown extension wouldn't be too long. That said we know at least 4 were in isolation so let's hope the other 9 were too. I guess that's unlikely but the more in isolation the better.

Eventually people have to die to covid to open up. There is no alternate. Where you draw the line and what level of death we will tolerate is a valid debate. I have friends who think what uk is doing is great and others who think foolhardy.

Personally I think it should be based not on percentage but on everyone having has a chance to get vaccinated but sounds like we are in the hands of an institute setting a percentage.

Australia's path out of COVID and 'back to normal' will take time. Here's how it might look - ABC News

You’re kidding aren’t you? Since when has an even playing field been a main driver of the AFL?

The draw is not even, umpires are not even, this is just another hurdle where some teams get an advantage over others. The bulldogs won a flag because of the introduced pre finals bye.

I concede that we will have to find a line in the sand to draw at some point when it comes to COVID. we can't go into lockdown every winter for the rest of our lives. But where is that line? I can tell you that 322,000 cases and 296 deaths over the past week (in the UK) is way, way past that line. Either way, we are not ready to have that conversation any time soon. We will have to vaccinate the whole country first.

My worry is that COVID will eventually mutate into a strain that is immune from the vaccine. But I guess future booster injections will be able to help with this potential scenario going forward.

yes, but all of these changes were made with plenty of notice. I heard on radio today that Toby Greene was pulled out of the Swans game 30 minutes before the first bounce. He was even interviewed by Fox pre-game. That’s ridiculous.

Hopefully the mRNA vaccines will be better equipped/suited to combat future mutations of Covid 19

So the UK has 70% vaccinated but recorded 48,000 new daily cases. And they're lifting all restrictions. Is this correct?

How many of the hospitalised are fully vaccinated, of those, how many critical, versus unvaccinated?

Good question
I suspect this will be the new norm once the vaccination rates are up. Covid-19 is here to stay, hopefully turn itself to a less deadly strain that doesn't cause too much damage to the vaccinated.

At some point the governments need to bring things as close to normal as they can and anti-vaxxers can go *smile* themselves/

Not sure of the UK, but a quick radio report I heard the other day stated that almost all hospitalisations in the US are non-vaccinated individuals.

Personal responsibility falls on the individual whether they want to get vaccinated (protected) from this virus or not.
I fully expect our Government to open things up too when everyone that wants a vaccination has been able to get one.
If people then get sick ,well that has been their personal choice not to protect themselves.
