Coronavirus

In regional Victoria all community sport has got the go ahead. Great news.

People aren’t allowed to meet in public anymore than 20 people. So does that mean no crowds?

Very confusing.

Has the AFL actually given this their seal of approval?

As we know they would love to keep the RFC out of Victoria to hobble their season.

Assuming we go to the next stage of reduced restrictions in a week, its my understanding footy will be back in Melbourne next week with crowds

I find that hard to believe? I hope it’s right. Just basing this on regional Victoria restrictions from this week.

I don't think there should be games in Victoria until at least 50% capacity is allowed at the venues. It was so much better watching the dream time with a packed house on TV than it was watching the Dogs v Melb at a locked out stadium.

I agree. Why didn't any of these experts come up with that? Remember the Nat Cab was taking advice from the "experts" which includes the below.. I assume they would keep minutes of these discussions. Did they discuss a long-term quarantine strategy?

Saying Scomo has botched quarantine ignores that it was unlikely his sole decision to have it state based. I reckon if any one premier was vehemently against it they would have revealed it by now.

Victoria released their plan for purpose built quarantine in Feb. i would imagine they were working on it for a little while. it was initially dismissed outright by Morrison and the Libs, Dutton calling it 'smoke and mirrors'. 4 months later the Libs have come onboard.
Queensland have been trying to get the same thing going, but dont appear to be getting support from the Feds, and now NSW want the Feds to build something similar there.

There were no viable alternatives to hotel quarantine early days anyway. Not enough facilities, no-where else to put them given the volumes of people returning. But they could have planned for alternatives going forward, sure. I guess they bet that it would work and other facilities wouldn't be needed.
That was my take on it.

Ive mentioned before I did hear that the army bases with hospitals, was not an option. didnt have capacity. So it appeared that was canvassed at least

Yep. Vic had the right concept but failed to included Feds from the start. (thats the bit they got wrong imo).
Feds annoyed and knew nothing of it apart from a days or 2 notice, "hey pay up". At least both are discussing it and would like to know who will be overseeing it, control and so forth. (Fed or State).

Feds were dumb not to think this virus would have be done under 12 mths trying to avoid building Q structures. After this virus, year or 2 comes under control, it will be interesting to see how those facilities are used. Hope they dont become a white elephant.

None of us are aware what has or not been discussed behind close doors by all invovled.

I for one am rapt we are discussing with opinions on this, vaxs, Q, HQ rather than mounting deaths like other countries. Disheartening when you hear many dying on a daily basis elsewhere.

Feb 2021? 12 months after corona started here and 11 months after national cabinet first met? Swift work. IHappy for the Feds to be canned, they have been hopeless but there's some irony in thrusting VIC forward as some shining example of covid planning & management.

Ultimately its the advisors to national cabinet that appear to have failed to plan properly but possible reasons for this are pointed out above.
