Coronavirus

Melb Victory's playing Wellington in NZ and have to rush back before the midnight deadline, otherwise they're stuck for 14 days self-isolated. This is too bureaucratic IMO.

I'm sure he's trying to keep up public morale
You don't have to barrack for Trump to fail to know that everything the man says or does is 100% self-serving. As for Morrison, it would take industrial-strength blinkers not to see what an out of his depth hollow man this vacuous fraud is.

On isolation, i mainly work from home but some of my work does involve school visits, which is yet to be cancelled, but only a matter of time methinks.

Re food delivery, I can recommend You Foodz for great pre-packaged meals at a good price, delivered to your door.

Current scoreline says they should have stayed home
This is feeling like a sci-fi film....or should I say hallucinated nightmare?

Seriously, what is the conclusion of all this? Why such draconian laws when everything's based on possibility?

The whole world's going into hibernation and nothing in the air is approaching. There's still any chance you'd pick this illness up at home if we all get locked up.

It's not like this so-called virus will only be around in 2020 and that's it. Viruses have been around for centuries and always will be.

Read a good take on Trump recently - he's such a habitual liar he lies even when it's against his self-interest.

The recent State of the Nation and National Emergency announcements are great examples of this.

Another disaster unfolding in the USA......same disaster as last year, and the year before that........

Delay rate of infection to give health systems half a chance. Buy time for vaccine development. Allow natural herd immunity to develop.

Do you want to be Italy where they are now saying over 80s get no ICU treatment, or Singapore?

good summary of where we are at.

if it was a footy game, we are flooding the backline after a 3 goal run, instead of a 7 Goal run (hands up who wants to re-live the port elimination final?).

but if I was being entirely cold hearted, which now is probably not the time,

I would say no ICU for over 80's is probably reasonable policy, even in healthier times.

Of course I wouldn't want to be the doctor or nurse apologising to the family, but 80 is 10 years past our biblical allocation (the bible does have a decent measure of wisdom, if its read as one would read Aesops fables, and makes great toilet paper and cigarette papers)

We're two different sized countries and population.

Work on the bottom range of 36m illness. Work on the lowest range of 2% death. COVID-19 will give you 620k deaths. That's without adding in the fact COVID-19 seems to be easier and quicker to transmit than the flu and you can see that your little infographic says sweet fa about the current situation.

I think Bill is making a point about the fragility of the US health system.

And if health systems overload due to Covid19 will seasonal flu deaths rise or fall this year?

The only mitigation is that the Northern hemisphere is moving out of flu season as Covid19 hits.
With everyone washing their hands, covering their mouth when they cough, staying home when they are sick and rushing out to get the flu vaccine, I would guess that we are heading for one of our lowest flu seasons in a long time.
