Coronavirus

In our weekly CMT meetings we're getting information that we should be planning for the current disruption to last at least 3 months. Governments will need to clamp down hard to stop the spread, harder than most have to date.

If it weren't for the likelihood the Dems will nominate Dementia Joe Biden, I'd confidently predict this will be the end of Trump. Hopelessly out of his depth.

No American president, and precious few American politicians, have ever pointed so many fingers or hurled so much abuse as Donald Trump. What he means, of course, is: Don’t hold me to account for the things I did...

More people will get sick because of his presidency than if somebody else were in charge. More people will suffer the financial hardship of sickness because of his presidency than if somebody else were in charge. The medical crisis will arrive faster and last longer than if somebody else were in charge. So, too, the economic crisis. More people will lose their jobs than if somebody else were in charge. More businesses will be pushed into bankruptcy than if somebody else were in charge. More savers will lose more savings than if somebody else were in charge. The damage to America’s global leadership will be greater than if somebody else were in charge

So the US is burning and Trump's fiddling?

In all of the *smile* going on, it's prudent to understand that the major leagues, government bodies, etc etc will be getting information from the government agencies, bodies etc that they will not have released to the public yet. This would be projections, estimates, scenario planning etc etc. It's this type of information that will drive the organisations and governments etc to decide when to shut down major events and infrastructure (schools etc).

None of these people would want to lose the massive amounts of revenue that will work without cancellations or shutdowns, so you can be sure that the risk of not shutting down is a lot higher than the cost of shutting.

It's not an overblown media scare campaign. It never was.

People lining up at the GP.

What a fiasco.

Premier has said there will be no fans allowed and the GP may not go on.

2 drivers have gone home(allegedly).

Joke

What about people travelling on trains, trams etc.

Need strong decisive action(S) to organise our lives.

Leaving this to the last minute isn’t going to help.

Humans have shown(most) how shellfish we are and KAOS will spread faster that this virus.
Simple fix. Lock everyone in their homes for three weeks just to be sure we're all safe from ourselves, beat *smile* out of n jail anyone who doesn't comply. Don't let anyone into the country from anywhere. Have special teams of haz mat suited delivery drivers dropping off the bare essentials for survival once a week ( that'll *smile* up all the pathetic low life hoarders ) Shut down the whole country for three weeks, no-one will notice anyway, we've all got our online *smile* to keep us amused n distracted.

Whilst that's extreme, it may be the best option all round. There can be massive social issues if there is a prolonged shutdown. This was the approach China went with. Lock people away until new infections drop significantly. Quarantine everyone left with the virus and then slowly restart society. This may be the best approach all round, as prolonged shutdowns will inevitably lead to significant business closures, significant job losses and therefore mass unemployment which would then put significant pressure on the housing market.

Its a very delicate decision but this is why people are elected to governmental positions, so that they can make the touch decisions.

People go conservative in times of crisis. And Biden is far, far more conservative than Sanders.

You can get the latest figures here: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Greece was +18 for a total of 117, and recorded its first death.

Thank you.

When I hadn’t heard from you I went to mums to watch the news straight after work, concerned for family over there.

Things have been developing quickly since I spoke with them!

Thank you for the updated information LTRTR

Was waiting for your reply TM.

With most sporting events globally either being suspended or cancelled, it seems obvious that the AFL will follow suit.

It would seem most prudent to suspend the start to the season for 4 weeks and potentially then adjust the fixture for a 17 game season (assuming that in 4 weeks they may be able to start, either that or a further suspension).

Our fixture allows the AFL to do this with little disruption. I'd be surprised if it doesn't happen.

Reading 'between the lines' of today's Age reports, it looks clear that Daniel Andrews wants to cancel all mass events but cannot act on AFL, probably due to Gill's reluctance to comply at present. However, now that the Grand Prix has decided it must cancel the writing is on the wall. Gill will have to concede. He's just holding out for some kind of miracle ...(a touch like Trump?). No doubt seriously worried about AFL revenues.

However, think the AFL want to go ahead with matches in empty stadiums but Age also reporting that AFL has not issued details on number of attendees acceptable in this scenario but clubs maintain might need around 50-70 staff including players. (Not sure if this is that safe, but would require other health-screening measures, surely?)

I actually would like to see the matches proceed in empty stadiums as per Serie A in Italy etc. Thus we have the same season statistically if not supporter-wise. At least we can see the games on our screens even if there is no atmosphere, and AFL will still receive their TV money.

But, RFC flag presentation will have to be re-scheduled until another huge home game as far as I am concerned.

Tried to find posts relating to the stupidity of the fans and government etc re attending and allowing the womens t20 world cup final to go ahead but couldn't find any. Nothing much changed here in 5 days.
