Media Watch calling out media melodrama surrounding Covid. With particular focus on The Australian's recent front page..

"Not secret, not modelling, and not from the government". Shame on Murdoch and his lying hacks.

The Murdoch Media are as complicit as anyone in this second wave. Kevin Rudd is right, we need a Royal Commission into their conduct.

Could understand some cadet being duped but that is garbage, coming from the political editor of a major newspaper. Off with his head!

You've well and truly made your point, ToO.

Some strong trends now starting to be shown in the data set. Cases are still going up but the net increase in active cases is at a crawl (+11 today, +15 yesterday) and again when you review as a 2 pronged issue (aged + healthcare and all others), active cases outside of healthcare workers and aged care has continued to decrease. 4 days in a row now we have seen a negative movement which is great. Certainly that increase we get from new cases at the moment is being beaten with a stronger level of recoveries which is good news. Trend line is looking good too. We drop the large jump on the 5th off tomorrow so expect a steep drop off tomorrow.

Certainly the major issue of aged care and healthworkers needs more work as cases keep increasing (as to active cases) and those 2 categories are now 38.4% of total active cases compared to 18.9% on 23rd July when the numbers first started to be provided.

Moving in the right direction and the above chart shows that masks and Stage 3 restrictions are now coming through in the numbers. Stage 4 should start impacting the numbers in a few days.

Yep, a reasonable number again today, I'll update my numbers later when the DHHS update theirs.

Trend is looking ok but we will really see where it is going in about a week.

The good thing is that the Stage 4 restrictions have probably not yet had their full effect as we have only had them for, what, 9 days. If these latest restrictions have the desired effect we could get some control in a few weeks time.

The lower numbers also mean contact tracing becomes more manageable, which should also make a difference.

The DHHS have now revised their numbers, as usual a few changes to previous days but always small.

Some good signs:

Now, let's see if this can continue. On the way up it would plateau and then rise, so plateau and then fall would be fine.

Keep safe, and always remember to thank the boys.

4 new cases in New Zealand. All from the same family.

I hope they can contain it. Just goes to show you can never think you have this defeated.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but ScoMo prevented Border Security staff from testifying in the Ruby Princess investigation, claiming a State investigation has no authority to call Federal employees to testify. That's despite others testifying have pointed out the mistakes made by Border Security staff.

*smile* ridiculous stance by the Fed Government and pure politics rather than really finding out what went wrong so it can be prevented from ever happening again.

Haven't seen it but understandable given it's state v feds in the blame game. There are too many inquiries into that one for the truth not to come out.
