Coronavirus

well technically we are having harsher restrictions with facemasks being enforced from Thursday. It’s probably the last restriction before stage 4, which will have to happen if these numbers don’t drop within 2 weeks.
Yeah you're probably right Bin. Really hope we start seeing a better trend in the next few days though.

Our restrictions are less severe than last time. With thousands of students and teachers moving about.

I heard there's as many as 20 schools closed today with positive cases?

VIC CMO Sutton is actually pleased with the progress. Even though the numbers don't look great he's optimistic in the direction.

I guess that's the thing about exponential growth. As the overall case number gets higher, it becomes exponentially harder to restrict further growth. The relatively linear growth we're seeing at the moment indicates the restrictions are working.

But it's still on a knife's edge.

The other thing to remember is that public hospitals are much better placed now than they were in March as they have extra ICU capacity in place ready for many more patients. That wasn’t the case 4 months ago as they were scrambling to build the capacity at the time.

It depends on your personal circumstances. I was able to escape to the Mornington Peninsula during the first wave. That made it more bearable for me and the misses. I can't do that this time around. But at least I can go to work. my misses is stuck at home.

Yeh, they feel more severe, I've noted less people on the road the last couple of days as well as less out and about. And most wearing face masks. All shop workers wearing face masks. And definitely more police checks about where you are going etc. A friend has been stopped twice asking what he was doing out.

Feel for the teachers, ct made some good points about the illogical arse about nature of who is at school and who is doing remote learning given age-based risks.

I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that the roads were much quieter in April and May. They are quiet now, but there is no comparison to 2-3 months ago. And I have definitely seen more police on the road as well. My employer has started handing out letters for staff who are worried they might get pulled over to/from work.

Yeah I agree the roads are busier now than in Lockdown 1. My employer has also provided staff with a letter of essential service to keep in the car. But there are noticeably more people wearing masks now, even before the Thursday mandate, than there were in Lockdown 1.

The masks are getting more common. I don't like wearing a mask, then again I get hayfever so itchy nose and sneezing does not make for comfortable mask wearing. But tried one out today as my partner is sewing a few up. Time to get used to it.

What we really need is less people out and about, I really do wonder what most of them are doing.

What we need is less people visiting others and being in close confines. Most of the transmission is within family groups. Don't visit people, don't be with people in enclosed environments for long periods of time. It was done before here and done in other states.

I don't imagine the likes of pubs/clubs are going to be able to operate in the forseeable future. You look at examples overseas and they are hotbeds of transmission - enclosed spaces with large numbers and no social distancing is a recipe for spread.

When they also warn every Vic case (and now NSW case) could have stemmed from this it's a disaster. I feel sorry for the security guards themselves, thrown into a situation by an incompetent gov't and greedy & unscrupulous businessmen.

over 200k new cases per day. over 15M people infected. our new normal way of life is *smile*. you can't stop this thing unless we find a vaccine.

greedy & unscrupulous businessmen.

alleged businessmen should be given a decent spell in the clink IMHO.

a decade or two would be fair? for billions of dollars worth of disruption and death?

Criminal charges should absolutely be considered.

Where are the "it's just a flu" crowd? I hope they're OK.

I guess it's a positive that cases hit 10m when deaths hit 500K, now it's 15m/620K. Not as many people are dying, although there are probably many more infections than are being reported in some countries.

2 weeks training and then given a gun. The entire industry is a joke.
