Coronavirus

Seems to be 3 parties here. Port Authority who stopped the ship. Border Force who told Port Authority to allow the ship to dock and NSW Health who don't look like they had direct conversations with Port Authority.

PA did the right thing and stopped the ship docking. Border Force and NSW Health need to be investigated.

The information I've read:

- Border Force is concerned with checking passports, preventing illegal entry etc. They don't make health assessments.

- Port Authority of NSW contacted Border Force with their concerns. Border Force contacted NSW Health.

- NSW Health spoke to authorities on the ship (the captain?) who provided a favourable report on the health of passengers. Ship said some had been tested for flu but advised that apart from one very ill passenger who required immediate hospital treatment, there were no major issues. Based on this information, NSW Health assessed the passengers as "low risk" and advised Border Force that they would not be sending staff to conduct onboard testing. This was the final box that needed to be ticked, and Border Force was then obliged to instruct Port Authority to allow the ship to dock, and passengers to disembark.

My reading based on the above:

- Border Force followed the book and are off the hook.

- NSW Health may have been negligent in not sending staff to test for the virus. One spokesperson defended his staff last week and said they were "tired after working long hours".

- Medical crew/captain/Carnival Australia may have provided false or misleading information to NSW Health, who made a flawed decision as a result.

One of the latter two is going to carry the can. Perhaps both.

Antman so true.
Those smaller countries have been taken over by casinos & gambling and the influence of ‘gangster ‘ style tactics!

I hope Australia change some of their dealings.

Also by massive investments in infrastructure.

Interesting times indeed here in Botswana ! Just watching government debating the 6 month state of emergency proposal by the ruling party and they have just been advised that no one is going home as the health worker who was screening them all has tested positive last night so All members and people in the building yesterday are now going into quarantine for 14 days ! On another note as I need to do some shopping I'm off to the local government to see if I can get a travel permit permission form t do shopping stamped ! Things look a little more relaxed in Australia , is this correct guys ?

What a crock. Border Force doesn't make health calls. That's NSW Health's job! They didn't attend and instead made an assessment over the phone. Heads must roll.
Ha ha. Border force doesn't protect the borders. Thought they had some experience at stopping boats. They had 1 job and stuffed it up.

We are seeing the end of the American Century, and it looks like the next will be dominated by China. Trump is just speeding up the process.

Good to see back online A-man. How is it going in the SEA tropics?

Last week on my shopping trip I made a startling discovery. When you spoke of your strong admiration for Asian girls in face masks I took that as sub-tropical fetishtic pecadillydally.
But after 10 days at home the visit that supermarket opened my ears to hot Frenchie ladies in masks.
I need to get out more.

And it will be next Thursday to the shops

Not accusing anyone of anything but there was a story floating around that pressure was put on NSW health to agree to release the passengers through a very senior politicians office because that politician had close friends or family on that boat.
Has anyone heard about that recently? May well be a debunked rumour

It hasn't been debunked despite some senior journalists 'being assured' its not true.

Shouldn’t that be on the rumour board?

I thought about that but if I did I would post it as “I heard ....” and that wasn’t the message I wanted to give.
My question was whether anyone else had heard it because there was a lot of chatter about it a couple of weeks ago on twitter and elsewhere. I assume that seeing it died down it wasn’t true

The Border Force wouldn’t have even thought to stop COVID19 sufferers because they’re mostly dumb bozos with big guns.. they don’t do a whole lot but intimidate..

I've seen that bouncing around on twitter. Also heard there was no passport / visa check when the Ruby Princess docked. They were allowed to just walk ashore as if they disembarked from a harbour cruise.

BTW, Dutton has been uncharacteristic quiet during this pandemic.
