Coronavirus

Don't want to argue about this as it's trivial, but it's not as though authorities here have been sitting on their hands since last year.
as I said in a post above yours, all I’m doing is transmitting what I hear and read (like all the CV19 second guessers) and I’m not bagging anyone. But does this make the source at the CSIRO a liar then..?

It’s estimated that there are 20,000 wild animal/wet markets in China. I can’t put into words how much that angers and disgusts me.
And the filthy markets are still operating, even though they were supposed to have been banned:mad:

Whistleblowers are not tolerated in China, but those markets are:mad:

It's really a cultural thing. Bats are lucky, torturing the animals before eating makes them taste better etc. I'm not one for interfering in other countries' cultures... except when it affects us severely like this. China's gotta change.

I have not been following this post, so apologies if this has been raised.
Does the RFC sell Tiger face masks on line?
I know about the mask debate, but I would like to have a re useable Richmond cloth mask for shopping trips etc.
Can any one tell me if RFC has them.

This is the only mask being advertised.

Given there's a worldwide scramble for masks and other protective equipment, any request from the club for Richmond-branded masks is probably well back in the queue. And I don't think surgical masks are meant to be re-used.

That looks like a masquerade mask.
Yes you are right.....Surgical masks are not for re use.
Cloth masks simply provide a physical barrier to droplets, nothing more and could be re used and washed.
Not medical grade but I think there may be a change in attitude in Australia in time and masks may become common place.
If I am going to wear one then I want a Tiger mask.

I thought that stressed animals effected the meat quality.
Old habits might die hard, and many probably haven't experienced the joys of a nice steak, but given a choice between a bat and a t-bone surely they'd go for the t-bone.
Rhino horn and tigers *smile* might be a cultural thing, and I'm making an assumption, but reckon they eat what they eat because that's all that's available.

A lot of animal meat is quite expensive. In some cases ordering or serving it can be a show of prosperity, like driving a flash car.

Pangolins for example are a premium meat. This article quotes a price of $700 for 2kg in 2015. The scales are up to $3,000/kg.

Poor people often eat dogs and cats, which are cheaper than beef and pork. But it's still cultural - Yulin Dog Meat Festival.

Wasn't sure whether to put this here or on the politics thread.
Like many here i have plenty of time on my hands and am watching more tv than usual. Saw Trump. Just when i thought he couldn't be any more of a stupid *smile*.........
The CDC has recommended people wear face masks ( rightly or wrongly). Trump said he won't because "I think wearing a face mask as I greet presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens,....."
Exactly what Heads of State are leaving their countries at the moment in this pandemic to go to the US, which has the most cases of COVID19 in the world, to visit him?

That's it. He has been good since, as has the federal government after a poor start. They have reacted well after realising the gravity of the situation. I'd just love to see some balance rather than the usual Scomo = bad Dan = good. The Ruby Princess fiasco apparently accounts for around 10% of the cases in Aust. How many would the grand prix have accounted for if it went ahead?
the Grand Prix was a complete f'up. as you say the government was rescued by the racing teams in the end.

The cricket was a little earlier, and before there were any, or many cases. the chance of transmission there was minimal.

the biggest error, from my couch in hindsight, was border control. every case has come from overseas, or traced from someone who came from overseas. it shouldnt have been to hard to see what was happening in other countries, and do something to stop it happening here.

I wonder what the anti-vaccers will do when there's a COVID-19 vaccine available?

Well according to this article the corona virus is likely to be of natural origin. So not the product of a virology lab! Apparently it is likely to have jumped from an origin in a bat or pangolin by way of an intermediary, like a civet cat into humans. So a little bit of bad luck in the Wuhan wet market so to speak.
