Contract List

Sin i think Chol is on the main?
Got a 2 year extension ...
I’m so confused with the rules now. He was rookied in 2019 and then got a contract extension but does that mean he is automatically on the main list? I thought that meant he had to be upgraded in 2020?
I really am not sure

Yeah I'm not sure either, but he was delisted and re-rookied last year which meant we could keep him on the rookie list. Maybe its dependent on how much he is paid above the base rookie salary whether they can still be treated as a rookie.

I assume that if we offer menadue a contract and he refuses it we would have to delist him and he could go to Freo as a delisted free agent? If that is true it’s pretty unfair

No. If we offer a contract and it is rejected he would have to go into the draft. Same as Jack Martin.
Tho i assume we could still choose to delist him to allow him to choose where he goes.

Now I’m confused
Someone will clarify for us, but I think he has been on the rookie list for some years.
I’m sure the rules changed again so maybe , oh, I don’t know now Sin!

He was in the rookie list for 2 years which is why we had to re rookie him last year , so now 3 years and I thought that was the maximum time anyone could be a rookie? I may be totally wrong about that.
Because he has a new contract my assumption was that we had to use a draft pick to put him on the main list but again I could be wrong about that too !

No as long as you delist (ie. send them back to the draft) you can re-rookie for another 3 years I believe.

I believe this is a possibility. It’s all so confusing. He could refuse our offer (if there were one) and take his chances as a delisted free agent. Or if not taken as a DFA he could hope for the ND or the PSD or rookie drafts.

From THAT website:In limbo: There was some interest from Fremantle in Connor Menadue who could still land at the Dockers as a delisted free agent. Young duo Jake Aarts and Derek Eggmolesse-Smith will be retained at Punt Road, but premiership player Jacob Townsend looks unlikely to remain at the club. Callum Moore is still waiting to learn his fate.

I bet he refuses a contract from us, if we offer him one, and he ends ups signing with Freo for 2 seasons.

Playing list can be either:

38 primary. 6 cat A rookies, 3 cat B rookies
39 primary. 5 cat A rookies, 3 cat B rookies
40 primary. 4 cat A rookies, 3 cat B rookies

I would assume that we will have to upgrade Stack, Baker and Pickett to the primary playing list. Back to 38 players. Leaving us only 2 picks available for the National draft, to hit the maximum of 40 primary list players, unless Miller, Moore or Menadue are delisted and re-drafted as rookies?
Its really hard to work out the figures because whoever is responsible for the club list is hopeless.

They still have Grigg listed among 38 seniors and we know (or rather were told in the press) that he resigned to allow Pickett on the list.
Just read the rules on category B rookies and Smith is our only one. Note that as I read the rules, a cat B rookie can stay on the list for up to 3 years.
Thus we had - pre Pickett - 38, 6 cat A, and 1 cat B (Smith).

So if we presume that we were at capacity with Grigg then the only way it makes sense is that we upgraded a player to allow room in the rookie.
If that's true then Stack, Baker or Chol may have been upgraded before they signed new contracts in August to take Grigg's spot and allow Pickett in the rookie.

As said, it would help a bloody lot if the club informed the members who was actually playing for Richmond and under what conditions.

Yep

nope I think the AFL was allowing mid season rookies on as an extra ‘rookies’

If that's true then Stack, Baker or Chol may have been upgraded before they signed new contracts in August to take Grigg's spot and allow Pickett in the rookie.

as far as I can guess, All three were upgraded on merit, not for the Pickett issue.

the Weller departure balances the Pickett arrival.
So we are now 3 down (Grigg butler Ellis).
If we delist miller Menadue moore then We’ve got room for 3-5 at the national draft and room for three rookies, letting us keep Towner & Aarts.

I'm glad you guys/girls have worked this out. Something I don't have to get involved with, I'll just keep watching the highlights, the game, read reviews and enjoy the remaining time until we start again. Yeah, We Are The 2019 Flag Holders, Top Team. GO TIGERS GO RICHMOND.
