Changes vs Sydney Swans

I am just happy to see the kids hard work is paying off and they get a gig at the highest level. I am not expecting too much from them on a first game but hope they go OK and show us a bit of future.
Wonder if this selection shows that the powers that be have hung up the boots for 2023?
Good selections methinks.

Whilst excited by these debuts I also wonder if privately the club has recognised there will be no premiership this year so future planning becomes the priority. The news on Lynch this week would have amplified what was already a highly unlikely scenario. They’d never say never but the priority shifts.
C'mon Oldie, do you really think we're strong enough to win the flag this season?

Looks like Banksy was hurting from inside for some weeks now, even as you hear Lambo saying 'waiting for weeks'. Watching Sonz, Samson, Gibbo last season, Hugo etc... all get games and he was waiting, waiting, waiting.

You can make any stats look like that. I could say that Ben Miller has only kicked goals in 1 game if you ignore the St Kilda game.

Let me ask you a different question. If Jack isn't playing, who takes the best defender, and therefore who else will kick goals for us? We have relied on midfield recently as we haven't had our forward setups right.

I'm not saying that Jack doesn't appear to have some burnout (the bye came at the right time for him, just the problem was we were so poor on Thursday that he didn't stand a chance), but who else do we have that will be able to kick multiple goals.

Bauer we need to be on a weaker defender (surely you don't want to give him their best defender?), Miller (has kicked goals in 2 of 9 games this year)? Ryan? (not strong enough yet).

The facts are that we don't have a lot of options and Jack is still the best that we have to play that role, and we need to acknowledge that he won't kick as many goals. He was expected to play as a 2nd or even a 3rd forward this year, with Lynch's injury he is having to play a role that he maybe isn't well suited to play, but he is our best option at that role right now.
Jack at the G is a different cat.
Agree probably cooked now but Longmuire won't allow Jack 2nd or 3rd Beckman, which means Bouer has a good chance to show what he has .

Miller is more versatile than Ryan in the wet (if it rains). I would like to see one of Macca or Pickett go out also as they have been mediocre. Hugo to stay in. Thought Hugo showed a bit when he came on for Short. But I doubt the match committee will drop either.
Cumberland stays in and Graham can go out as he provides next to nothing playing HFF. Dusty more midfield and Bauer I reckon plays forward.
Banks wing or may be needed to run off half-back. So happy for both Bauer and Banks, both are very much deserving. Tom Brown is next in line if he keeps up his good form.

OUTS: Ryan, Short (inj), Graham, Pickett
INS: Dusty, Prestia, Bauer, Banks

Sub: Pickett

Giving in might be the wrongs words, but my point was that these 2 selections dont show we arent picking our best 22.
I sort of agree but I do think the selection of Bauer in particular was a no brainer no matter what our position is.
It is blindingly obvious we need another forward who can take a mark, even just to take some pressure off Jack.
Banks has earned his call up but two debuts in one game is probably telling

We are all Jack lovers but looking at his work overall he is a long long way back from the player he was. The idea that his play is still contributing to the development of other forwards, at this point, doesn’t really stand up. He is battling to get a possession and to score, and while his hit on’s etc are often courageous and helpful, it is just not enough.

He is aware of this surely and the longer it goes on the more difficult it is becoming. In fact I can’t recall seeing a 200+ game player nearing the end, and struggling the way he is.

The idea suggested by many here that Miller should go back to the VFL this week -just one game past his breakout game against the Saints, is putting blame for the Brisbane debacle where it shouldn’t be.
Far better that Miller is given the opportunity to further develop his skills at the top level, than it is for his time on ground to be given to Jack. Better for the future to have Jack coaching from the sidelines.

Buddy is playing apparently.

Hell of a career. Will be good to see him play one last time.
Buddy a great champion of the game and Jack also. Both will play. Enough from me on Jack, for this week anyway.
Buddy while a great has also shown himself as a bit of a thug.

Hope they both have good games.

After getting murdered ,banks was a necessity we needed and with both key forwards struggling, and Bauer playing better and better, his selection made sence no matter where we are or were or going to be on the ladder.

Right now those who are supposed to be out best 22 are not cutting it so why not try the kids who are, even if it is at VFL level? You never know, they may be in our best 22 by years end!

The club play for more than just the now. They clearly see (and rightly so IMO) that Noah is a defender. He just doesn't look like a natural forward. He's an imposing defender, and is a damaging weapon coming out of defence. This is the future for us in the back half. They will work out what works for us in the forward half going forwards.

You don't seem to see that playing Noah back is a long term plan and is a successful one, you seem to think its short term. Its a long term plan and we will continue as a club to go down that route.
100%. Balta has been a brilliant intercept player this year. And not as a free roaming backman, he repeatedly beats his man in one on one marking contests. Just needs to work on his disposal. Would be a total waste playing him forward. It requires different skills.

With Grimes and Broad getting on in age Balta is our only A grade tall backman atm. Gibcus will likely come good but he's only played 18 games and still needs to prove himself.

Miller to fickle for me 1 good game lucky in 4 goes missing to much. His played his best footy for me as a defender.

Agree, however the backline is stacked and the forwardline is empty. Hence the shift.

could be four changes, if Dusty & Dion are available along with Banks & Bauer?
Short is injury, Hugo replaced, Ryan or Miller for Bauer, Graham or Pickett for Banks (or both with one of them sub)

In: anyone who can win the ball our of the middle. Center Clearances 22 to 5.... FIVE !!!! Have we even been this poor in a game for center bounce clearances. That statistic alone is as poor I ever recall. Nanak-Ryan-Tarranto-Cotch-Hopper-Bolton-Graham and co. It was like a training drill for the Lions in the middle .

As we expected, Prestia will play mini confirmed this in his presser today!
Dusty and Dion good ins as well as the two debutants in Bauer and Banks.
