Changes v Bombers

Chol didn't do his chances any good with that performance.

I’m a fan of George, but if someone has to go to fit Houli in, then it should be George. LEGO was bloody good last night and is versatile enough to play other parts of the ground if Houli’s inclusion forces him out of defence. I doubt they’ll bring Nank in just yet.

In: Nankervis, Houli
Out: Soldo, Castagna

Markov or Baker to play forward.

Plenty more didn't cover themselves in glory, but you can't drop 8 players.

Too risky with only Nankervis. I would Chol and Castagna out. Being dreamtime, the club will want to fix in the blood brothers.

I seem to recall Markov playing some forward games for the VFL last year. Bakes is best in the back line.

So, with Houli coming back in I reckon Markov goes forward. We could use him there.

Not sure about Nank coming back yet but at the moment I'd replace Soldo with Nank. It is a quandary. Chol did not play well last night but has been playing well. Soldo's tap work is very useful. Nank is Nank, back in once ready. But not an easy decision as to who Nank replaces.

I think Soldo's influence has been ordinary but I can't see anyway Nankervis is going to be ready to play key ruck.

If Nankervis is to play second then I'd be surprised if Chol was played as number 1.

I think Nankervis and Chol is the combination going forward though so it may be we take all three through for a week or two, because Chol is also important to the forward structure in a way the other two can't be.

Exackery, but can't see us taking three rucks in, even against Los Bombres

I don't think it's a great idea to bring Houli and Nank in off long breaks in the same week. If Nank is 50/50 then give him another week. But, after that, there's really only one ruck combo:

Do you hear the drums, SolNankdo?

As for froward impact, Caddy would provide a more reliable marking target than Chol, plus more impact pushing up to the middle. He straightens up our I50 forays when he gets it in the middle.

Leave Markov to take the Castagna role (whatever that is).

Soldo did his job, Chol didn't.
No he didn’t. As our number 1 ruck he got beaten by Witts.

Chol is our back up ruck. So to suggest he needs to dominate is incorrect. His value is his ability to play up forward. Only 1 game ago he was almost our match winner.

You can be beaten and still do your job. Soldo rucked most of the night and had nearly as much of the ball as Witts, and kicked a goal. We actually won the Hitouts as well on the raw stats, if you think hitouts are important.

Never suggested Chol has to dominate, he's got enough skill that cameos are mostly good enough to keep him in the side. X-factor abounds and 1 game ago was great but I was talking about last night. He's at least got to compete in the air and bring the ball to ground, didn't do enough of that.

Let's see what Dimma et al reckon, but I think Nank and Soldo will play.

This is a possibility, especially against the Eagles' talls. I could see Nank or Soldo dropping back to fill the hole. It's not just about regarding NankCholdo as three rucks (one too many), it's about looking at the range of roles those guys can play within a precise gameplan aimed at countering the proven strengths of a specific opponent. From memory, we always get killed in the air by West Coast – might as well try to do something about it.

Honestly, Grigg had more presence in the ruck than Chol does. If Chol's going to play, it should be as a forward.

Soldo is a conundrum. Not sure we can ruck Nank one out first game back. That's a very short layoff for a syndesmosis injury, and a lot to ask for a player without match fitness. We can't play Chol in the ruck. CCJ's injury makes things a problem. Soldo's playing as poorly as he has in three years. There is a ruck issue. I think at this stage, you just go with what worked against GC, and if it stops working, change it. Though Nank for Soldo, despite a gamble, probably makes sense.

Castagna must go out. MUST. If he stays in, there's something rotten with selection. Every player who has performed anywhere near as poorly as him has been dropped this year.

So,

Out: Castagna
In: Houli

Markov switches forward, where he played most of the VFL season last year.

It makes a taller leading forward line of

Jack Lynch Rioli
Markov Chol Aarts.

But Essendon don't have a midfield, so we'll be able to hit targets at will if they're tall and can lead. And their backline is slow (bar Saad) and stupid (bar no one). So we should still be able to pressure them with Markov/Rioli/Aarts and even Chol has improved in this regard.

I agree Large Son Of Bull.

If Nank comes in to play in Darwin first up he will need to be eased in with Soldo probably splitting TOG in Soldos favor.

Once Nank is fit enough to play the lead role then Chol might get a recakll, but for this week I reckon they might play Soldo as in the GF.

It’s warming up the last week. A few hotter days.

Same here in Port Douglas, fastin. You can feel summer is suddenly just around the corner. Freo and Sydney are moving to Cairns in a couple of weeks, and even though the Tiges won't be here, I'm still looking forward to driving down to see some live footy.
