Changes v Aints

Soldo should stay. Ryan has done nothing at VFL level to deserve another go.

Need Soldo to play and pump up trade value.
Soldo couldnt catch a cold let alone a mark in the forward 50.

You bang on about developing youth ie Sonsie, but completely dismiss Ryan.

Because Sonsie had 31 touches and performed at a very high-level last week. And Ryan did not. Earned not given. Ryan got given a lot of games early in the year because of necessity that were gifted, now he is being made to earn them on form.

I'd rather Soldo play the rest of the year and potentially have Sydney or Geelong or any club needing a ruck throwing out a pick then gift your golden child and messiah an unearned game. Just show me where Ryan has ripped apart the VFL after going back??

So how is gifting games to Soldo any different to Ryan?

Soldo last week was next to useless when moved up forward. I would rather give games to a kid who has forward craft and is the future.

And clubs arent stupid to think they should cough up more draft capital for Soldo all because he played the last few games.

Does not matter who is out & who is in so just have to be switched on right from the start. Last weeks first quarter absolute embarrassing. Its the skippers job to get them in the right frame mind. Last week & the three previous games leadership appeared to be at at very low ebb.
I will put it out there but IMO Nank with his undisciplined game style and Grimes fumbling and over the hill that arguably we have the worst captaincy leadership in the AFL. Time to dump both and invest in one younger leader. Taranto or D Rioli for me!

Soldo isn't picked for his forward craft. Second ruck. He was really good against Max Gawn the week before as first ruck.

You are still talking about GIVING games to Ryan. Earn your spot. Dominate the VFL like the disciples say he can.

You think that Soldo playing in the 2's will help his trade value? Right now his numbers aren't that different to Darcy Cameron.

You don't reckon Essendon, Hawthorn, Geelong, Sydney wouldn't have Soldo's name down as one to watch? We are desperate for draft capital, putting Soldo in the shopfront window is the best thing to do short term and long term. And the main reason is that Ryan can't take his spot. Form doesn't warrant it.

At all.

So going back to my original point, as a second ruck you need also a point of difference which is having the ability to play as a second tall forward. He just does not provide that. For the Melbourne game he was the number 1 ruck so the scenario has now changed. I am not suggesting Ryan should be in the team over Soldo if they were fighting over the number 1 ruck position. I am suggesting Ryan offers far more as the second tall next to Jack.

As for trade value, again these clubs I agree will have Soldo on their watch list regardless if he plays or not. And he value will not diminish because of this.

To be fair, I don't think Samson has the point of difference as a second tall forward either. He also struggles to take marks forward (but marginally better than Soldo).

At the end of the day, I reckon they are both first rucks.

Which means, I would be trading Soldo, keeping Samson. Soldo will be 28 at the start of next season, one year younger than Nank. Due to his age., Samson is our longer term first ruck after Nank pulls a pin and is support in the meantime,

I am not suggesting Ryan is the next coleman medalist (well not yet anyway) but he is the future. And yes long term he takes over from Nank. But right now playing Nank and Soldo in the same team is pure madness. Even more crazy at Marvel. We all saw it last week.

Sampson plays similiar to the blokes we have had previously.
At least Soldo plays well in the ruck and remember Soldo has had a foot issue all sesson.
I would let Nakas go before Soldo

Agree with that. Can't play in the same team. Mini spruiked last week that they can play in the same team as they played in a premiership team together. HTF did that happen?

That's a good question if Dow and Sonsie are at the same level of performance at the VFL level, I know who I'd be playing.

The Saints look stronger with their inclusions. I'm just hoping we are competitive tbh. They really want to play finals. I'm not so sure we do.

Billings and Membrey, two blokes who like playing against us (along with Gresham). Meanwhile they drop Calamity, who I reckon is a massive dud.

We will be lucky to stay close.

We had a fit Lynch and Jack. In their prime. Plus running machines in Lambert and Edwards. Different times.

I think we got away with it in 2019, because we were so good. As Smokin says we had 2 gun forwards, and some running machines in the midfield so we could get away with the 2nd ruck sitting on the bench or hiding out of the way up forward. We dont have that now.

But neither Ryan or Miller were really offering much more than Soldo did up forward last week. Part of me thinks we may as well have the best 2nd ruck we can, and hope for the best up forward. Whether we would be willing to go into a game with 2nd ruck, and Jack, Bauer and Pickett as our "tall forwards" I dont know. Maybe this is the week to try though?
