Changes for Semi

I’m going to be contrarian and say keep Chol in. Only change is Aarts for Lynch. Possibly Caddy for Pickett.

Why keep Chol? The only reason to have him in the side is as a ruckman. As a forward he has zero presence but in the last quarter in the ruck he was good. He had 9 HO to Nank (who rucked for most of the game) on 11. I reckon Chol to first ruck Nank as backup. Say around 60/40.

Nank is also a far superior forward to Chol and his presence up there in the last allowed Riewoldt to take that grab and goal by getting Andrews to pay him some respect and lead him away from the drop of the ball.

Wondering if St.Kilda activates Ryan Abbott, who kicked two goals against us on debut and is a decent tap ruck (avg 27 hit outs before his one cameo appearance this year), or go with Marshall alone.

Marshall can go it alone but they will probably bring in a relief ruck for their balance.

Very fit individual is Marshall.
Can go alone and has done it I think once or twice but who knows if they bring someone to stretch us forward when he goes forward as he is a pretty good contested mark.

Yeah, that’s why they got him.

If we can’t beat this team in a do or die final then it’s time to make a lot of tough calls and start thinking 5 years down the track. Look at the duds in this team

Long - offered 1 week.

Ryder - has torn his hamstring.

Carlisle - possibly an out with the impending birth of his third child.

Still wouldn’t be taking them at all lightly.

Agree earlier in the year he was rucking by himself and playing well

I reckon Long is stiff.

if so- we could feasibly play a McIntosh or Pickett (Grigg role) as second ruck; as Battle is "only" 193cm & 92kg? i think the St. Kilda second ruck role will play a tad with our final team selection.
the saints may not have carlisle.

As a counter argument, I would drop Chol, bring in Broad in defence as it will be a seamless inclusion and each defender will know their jobs and use Balta as a number 2 ruck and mobile wingman. Right now Chol is a liability

Jezz I’d be disappointed if we lost this,

Given a few days ago I was quietly confident we would be booked into a prelim right now

Marshall can go it alone but they will probably bring in a relief ruck for their balance.

A look back at round 4 teams v Saints where we lost by 26 points:

Nank and Marshall went head to head and both were good, Nank 118 AF points and Marshall 89.

A lot of our players had howlers:
Stack who will be replaced for example only had 27 fantasy points and i think turned over several goals that day.
*Highlighted are the players in that side that were not in our side against Brisbane on the weekend.

Butler, Steele, Membrey, Lonie, Billings, Long, Battle where the Saints best

Butler and Membrey kicked 3, Marshall 2 and their late in for managed Ryder, (Dean Kent kicked 2 o_O ).
