Changes for Qualifying Final

Hmm Baloo - if the Lions manage to beat us it is impossible that they go on a lose the next two games this year.;)

Agree this Friday is their grand final - hope it’s not like us in 2017 v cats - I am expecting a very close game though.
That’s been my nightmare & fear too.

Not sure you actually watch footy if you even remotely think those changes are a 0.1% chance of happening.

Well, I both watch footy and also remotely think. In fact most of us are thinking remotely at the moment.

I'm not sure whether or not those changes are a 0.1% chance of happening, but it seems an oddly specific threshold you've chosen.

As always, I think we can all agree that this thread is not about predicting changes, rather suggesting what we would do.

Think about it this way, Bolton is an upgrade on Castagna. Prestia is an upgrade on Lambert (right now). So, at worst, we are a better side than last week.

Or you can think about it another way. The two most commonly suggested outs are Aarts and Ross. I think it's a reasonable suggestion that Aarts is playing better footy than George.

As much as we've all accepted that George is untouchable, as a pressure forward, Aarts has averaged more goals, more tackles, and goes at 75% vs 62% disposal efficiency.

The eye test also says not only has he had a better year, but Aarts is currently in better form. I don't see why it's such an out there suggestion.

Similarly, Ross is in better form than Lambert.

We'll most likely make our selections based on reputation, and going into a finals series, that makes sense.

But I won't ever forget that in last year's grand final, we selected M. Pickett because he was the player in the best form, most deserving of a spot.

That’s a lot of words for something you know isnt going to happen.

But yes totally fair if it’s just what you want to happen. I thought that’s what you were saying was your predictions.

In that case then in Richo out chol.

I don't know why you are so aggressive about an opinion on a forum for opinions.

But maybe this would help calm you down. I suggest from now on we wait until the teams are announced to discuss who we think should be in our out, so we don't run the risk of making suggestions with a low percentage chance of being the actual changes.

I don't think Chol is g/teed his spot. We may need him in the ruck, but against the crows, he really didn't play well. Even Dimma says his second half was better. if he gets a gig, I hope he puts in and plays above his self. the only saving grace is to keep the extra tall in, to ensure Jack doesn't get tripled tagged.

if we do go with Noah in the ruck / forward, then either Ross is out along with Chol. Aarts is working extremely hard on the ground and bagging goals.

Bizarre response ? Did you actually read what I said? but whatever you need...

Now, tell me that we're not living in their heads?
After reading that article the poor old lions are having nightmares about this game.

Plus i reckon we are a bit supernatural.

With Dave back from injury in defence & Lynchy out, I wouldn't be totally against the idea of pushing Balta forward with Jack instead of relying on Chol. Balta would cause huge problems and free Jack up as well. He's a monster, he's quick, powerful, can one grab and kick a goal. Would contest and bring the ball to ground for our crumbers too moreso than Chol. Just a thought, I know it is highly unlikely to happen but imo isn't the craziest idea.

Rioli must play. It's October so we need to see if the September Rioli Magic can adjust to October, or whether it really is genetically ingrained to star in September.

Rioli likes playing against the Bears I think.

George and Dusty do to as does JR8

Who can forget Dusty ground handball to Jack in the 4Q for a goal. So slick you couldn’t see his fist punch the ball.
It was like lightning

Just watching the final last year v Lions.
We were superb and far too good.

If Broad comes in to play on Hipwood and Balta goes forward to replace Lynch , help Nank very occasionally, Caddy stays in , out go Chol , Ross and Arts......then we have almost the same winning team. It is just Pickett for Soldo in terms of structural change. Soldo had an ordinary game.
I think this would be the ideal line up.
Balta is not needed down back if Broad takes Hipwood .
With this side we would win comfortably.
Can someone pass this on to Dimma please.

Really can’t see Balta being taken from the backline

If we dont bring Broad in then Chol has to play and he was horrible last week and the game he played before. He is not up to it and leaves us exposed.
Broad in and Balta forward does not leave us exposed but with a very strong team of comitted players who can cover any eventuality. Chol in and we can lose.

No way they shift Balta out of the back line. Balta has been trained for his current role and he does it very well. In any case, did you see the interview with Balt, said it was all a bit much being thrown forward, back, ruck last year. Much happier in a set role in the back line.

No, I really doubt we will upset a successful, established backline that has got us to this point. Grimes, Balta, Baker, Short, Vlastuin, Houli.

The extra is Dave, who has missed most of the season, but returned to his usual role in the last game, v Crows. I love him down back.

However, he might be the man to replace Tom up forward and play relief ruck to Nank. He's 196cm and a solid, strong footballer who is an excellent mark and kick. I'm sure he could compete in the ruck for around 20% game time and not be too much of a weakness. And as well, be a threat up forward. Besides, it might suit him to be under less pressure, spend some rest-time on the bench, given he has not had much chance to build real match fitness.
I think he's a more reliable bet than Mabs. But if we find trouble, probably can swap around Balta for Dave.

This way our backline retains its stability and cohesion (not that Dave doesn't fit in smoothly otherwise).

We will find out soon enough Leon which way the MC will play this one out...

if Chol plays the MC know more and have much more faith than me.
he will either completely star or completely melt in a finals atmosphere. he's a risk.
do they take the risk?

Mabiors last 3 games have been poor.

His last, very poor.

But his 5 before that were servicable through to very good.

Against brisbane he was very good.

I think people are overreacting to 3 bad games. It happens alot, especially to young talls.

Im backing Mabior in. I reckon he'll lift
