Can the Richmond Football Club afford to take John Butcher?

I've only seen the the 4 video highlights of Morabito and he looked rather average to me. Rarely hit a target and hardly ever played inside, always skirting the packs.

Well I have seen him play twice. Tends to kick the ball low and hard making it quick through the air, and delivery looked OK to me. Didn't seem to mind the physical stuff either.

The problem of drafting Morabito for me is that apart from not being an elite disposal of the ball (which Richmond are in desparte need of), the kid also comes from WA. So what, some of you may ask. Well. if we use the JoN example of seeing how hard it is for an interstate kid to assimilate into a new state, new surroundings, new friends, new football style and new culture - well i just dont think you will get these type of issues with a local talent. Even Richard Tampling has gone on record to say how hard it was for him to settle into Melbourne initially. Then there is also the potential 'go-home' factor in the future with many interstate kids.

My opinion only, but Dustin Martin is the best player in the draft for me. If your looking for a creative, tough player who has an unflawed kicking action and can also beautifully kick on both sides - he is your man. The prospect of teaming Martin up with Cotchin for the next 10 years would be magnificent.

How fre can he kick? Has he got pace and awareness? if so it sounds like melbourne will take him at 1 or 2

That's win-win for us DDT.

They take Martin, we take Trengove, or vice versa.

Hell, they might even take both. Which would mean a slightly bemused but quietly ecstatic Tom Scully will be pulling on a Tiger jumper next year...

Ah well, one can dream.

If Trengrove or Martin are the best most skillfull footballers after Scully and are available we take them.

IMO both Trengove and Martin are more skilful than Scully. Neither have Scully's work ethic though. Very much warming to one of Trengove or Martin and, if both were available, *smile* I reckon I'm weighing torwards Martin.

Im with you CC. watched DM's Vic country V WA game yesterday and the whole game is a highlight reel for him. He seems to kick left or right equally well and alternates just because he can. Uses the ball superbly, whether a bullet low pass or a perfectly weighted hanger for a fwd to run on to. gets his own ball, stands up in tackles and seems to have a huge engine. I would be happy to take this kid at No.1 if we had that pick. Looks like a cross between COGS at his best and Deledio. I agree too on PASS Butcher. I reckon he'll slip out of the top 10 from the limited footage I have seen.

Forget Butcher. Exactly the type of player this club has recruited for too long. We should be getting best available. I would go Trengove, Morabito or Martin(who reminds me of a young Leon Cameron.) Morabito looks like he will be the biggest of the lot but the other two look a little more polished.

I'VE SAID IT IN THE PAST. CRAIG CAMERON IS A DUD. SOMEONE SHOULD GAG HIM AND NOT LET HIM HAVE ANY INPUT IN THIS DRAFT. HAS NOT DONE A THING RIGHT SO FAR!

Opps caps lock on.

Getting back to the topic. No, Richmond can't afford to draft Butcher. Dustin Martin is the best player in this draft hands down. We must select Martin at 3 if we are to move in the right direction.

Yay lets get a KPP who cant kick for bananas...not. I fully expect Butcher to slip past the second round. No club could could be that interested in a bloke that cant kick and is trying all sorts of voodoo to try and rectify his kicking action.

Some should THINK before posting.
Could of sworn we went after our needs in last yrs Draft in Vickery and Post, not to mention Nahas. ::)

Trengrove Or Morabito which ever one is available will be our pick #3..lock it in.
Wiull be looking at Panos with next pick!

Was it also in our needs to only pick up 2x 18 year old's in a very strong draft last year? Thus, leaving us with a massive cleanout for the next 2 years and a lot more picks in weaker/compromised drafts. Yeah.......well done CC. ???

So you disagree with the retirements and delistings this year so far.

Butcher's kicking woes are being inflated again I see. He's not that bad. If he's available at our second pick I reckon he's a certainty to be picked up.

When were these games? Maybe addressed these issues AFTER the games on video because I saw none of that in the videos. If he has then good on him for working to address his game.

Concur with this. His kicking skills on both feet impressed me. A bit of a shock to the system as a Richmond supporter. Not used to seeing that.

It all comes down to what the Coach wants.CC would have been consulted and then spoken to our recruiters then decisions are made.As for the cleanout,s well if you can look into the future you,ll be a millionaire by now.The club back then thought we were a top 8 side
  • and acted upon it accordingly.
    Hindsight is the easy part.

His kicking is average at best. If anyone is truly happy to see this kid in the yellow and black, god help us.

I have the same reasoning for Jake King. Terrible, terrible player. Must go!
