Bye Bye Jack Higgins!

Extremely hard work is a talent, as many or most will never achieve Jack's levels of effort, it's a mentaly draining attribute to most mortals.

Yeah this old bloke just tried to do 10 push ups but said nah too hard and stopped at 5, (fitness workout over!) Waiting for the cricket to come on so I can sit in my leather recliner all day with stubby in hand ;D.

He'll be doing well if he beats Jack Graham to it.

Really looking forward to seeing the player Graham can become.
Will he be a genuine play maker ala Sloane or is he just a hard working, blue collar negater ?
The best players in the league generally get high possession counts.
I can see Higgins doing that but I'm not so sure about Graham

What do you mean exactly by 'read it better'. I was referring to the ability to quickly dispose to advantage, which reminded me more of Edwards in Higgins highlight reel.

He reminded me of Edwards too, or Jack Riewoldt when he's facing away from goal.

It's the ability to see 3-4 team mates about 5 seconds before the play and keep them in mind to predict their likely movements while you carry out your action with winning/receiving the ball.

It makes sense Higgins would be good at it, as this skill is much easier when your mechanical ball handling is highly trained and you can let your muscle memory do its job while you're not really paying attention to yourself, freeing your mind up to keep awareness of the moving teammates nearby.

Edwards is getting older, I'd be pleased if Higgins could match his output.

definitely the one to watch at the start of VFL, may even get a call up in the games prior season commencement.

How exciting is it going to be watching the VFL team next year? Seriously entertaining squad - full of athleticism and x-factor!

I am still having trouble believing how a player of such pedigree with so many awards in his young life, Higgins managed to slip down so far in the draft. Few higher could match his skill set and determination. Still it is our gain

All things being equal and going along without too many hitches, Higgins will be a cracker of a player for the Tigers.
Really looking forward to seeing his development over the next couple of seasons.

Bit like this year where Bolton an Stengel would have played most games the year before, Higgins may be eased into the AFL due to our strength in the small forward/ mid, in saying that I suspect all been well he’ll be there round 1

Bolton (second year player) will now know that an automatic spot (Rioli) for him is not on the cards, now that Higgins has arrived. I believe this is very healthy competition which may bring the very best out both players in a short period of time. Real exciting stuff.

Yep no given games at this point , the attitude and desire of the list will no doubt have a massive say on how our defence goes, I don’t think there’s any ‘experts’ who rate us as the most talented list so work ethic an desire are huge, and the competition for spots now can only help

Agree with sentiment of competition for spots however I'm convinced Bolton becomes a high half forward not small forward. Too good in the air for crumbling others. If he had endurance, would be the perfect wingman

We used 38 players this year and Hardwick didn't hold back in giving players a game and rewarding good performance from those in the VFL. If this doesn't change then we will maintain good positive competition for spots and ensure the squad improves in 2018.

Reckon we will see plenty of changes in 2018 and some bold selections during the season.

In Dimma we trust

I hope so. The selection of certain favourites didn't get us far above the middle of the table.

Old hat, TBH. That happened when GCS and GWS dominated the top draft picks so we had to take recycled or state squad types to try and steal some hard, experienced cast-offs with under-appreciated talent into our squad. Some of them were even very handy for a good while, like EEvan.

When we could get a decent run of draft picks again, it changed; the pay-off was 2017.

I'm talking about match day selection, in the context of competition for spots, not drafting issues. In 2017 Dimma was more prepared to give youth a chance, unlike previously. Granted, there were a lot of half-eaten sweets in the VFL showbag pre-2017.

He may have loosened his grip at selection table but it took him until round 23 to find what he was looking for all along.
Master stroke timing wise or just dumb luck? #mrseptember

The selection of Morris in Adelaide was a flirtation with old form.

Broad was a leap of faith.

Townsend was a lack of faith until all other options had failed.

His hands were tied with Graham due to injury, but he made the move as soon as it was practical.

He should be all over George’s spot. A natural upgrade.

Different player. Higgins won't be able to compete in the air and apply ground pressure like george does. George will take it to another level next year.
