Re: Brett Deledio

There is no doubt Lids has the potential to be a star, but IMHO he still has a long way to go to reach the elite level.

There were several times last night he tooks the soft option and failed to help out a team mate. At one stage he gave a handball off to a team mate then just jogged forward of the contest when he should have applied a block to the team mates opponent who continued to chase.

There were several instances of similar things last night and he still needs to work harder a lot of the time.

Maybe it had something to do with the fact that they were told before the game that Brownie and Cogs would no longer be pulling on the jumper

you are right Dave - if anyone questions it have a look at contested possessions, total possessions, clangers over the last 5 weeks.

Deledio will be a major player of the competition next year - has been for the last 5 or 6 weeks

Throw in tackles too. Lids had 9 last night. He tried his heart out in a game where the heart was ripped out of so many. Also 8 marks, 2 contested. Those things are what leading by example is all about and Lids was far superior to anyone else out there last night.

No garbage about it, he didn't even want to lead the team out in the second half, Ben Cousins had to push him to the front. What does that tell you about Delidio and his mental state, he can't handle it, he's soft.

How can anyone possibly state that as fact?

talking to much sense hear Dear Rosy....

Ive heard a few and i mean only a few call him soft thats quite ridiculous as he was top 3 last yr with tuck and foley for hard ball gets and this year is currently 2nd in hard ball gets and tackles too...13 contested possessions last night, 14 the week before V the hawks, 11 V the hard hitting swans and 10 against the pies, we're not talking 2 or 3 contested possessions and 20+ uncontested, he wins his own ball full stop!
One area where i was critical of him was his tackling but has improved this area of his game 10 fold....

He's one guy and we need the whole team doing there bit to be successful, and definitely one of our best players along with Richo, Cuz and Cotchin....

Re: Brett Deledio

The problem is as Richmond supporters is we mark our genuinely good players so harshly because they are carrying so many duds on their shoulders.

9 tackles? That's the sort of stuff I am looking for from Lids. 8)

He's been great the 2nd half of the season and will likely win his 2nd JDM.

We can't afford to lose one of the few genuinely talented kids who can play.
I'll be gutted if he leaves.

couldn't agree more

Re: Brett Deledio

If Lids played for a CONSISTENT top 6 club he would finish with two Brownlows and help them win a premiership.

For five years he has been coached and played with a group of hacks...even Bartel and Ablett would struggle to play consistent footy at our club....

well said Oldie and i too would be gutted as he's a true quality player....

A fit Cotchin and Foley will help and the emergence of Collins will add to the class....

Also need tambling to play in 2010 like he did for a good 8 or 9 week stretch from the adelaide game....

Need another 2 classy mids, Cuz is a champ but with maybe 2 yrs max left we need to find ourselves 2 young 18 or 19 yr olds with sublime skills....

Re: Brett Deledio

Deledio 28 possessions, 9 tackles, 13 contested possessions. What the hell do some want from him? Massai your comments are a disgrace.

50 possessions. 18 tackles, 26 contested possessions and 9 goals. Nothing less or Lids is not playing to his potential and should be traded.

Not really, Delidio by his own admission has been slack. Sure I'm harsh, but I'm pretty harsh on the whole playing list with few exceptions. He racked up a lot of stat's last night, great, now he has to do for every game he plays for Richmond, not just because Rawlings had a chat to him and told him to pull a finger out. Having to be pushed to the front to lead the players out in the second half is not a good sign.

Personally I don't think Delidio will be at Richmond next year, I think he will do an Otten's and find himself a club that has a real chance at a flag in the next 3-4 years eg: Collingwood. If he does stay and works really hard under the watchful eyes of Ben Cousin's fantastic (keep Delidio away from Wayne Campbell as much as possible),
he then has a chance at being a truly elite player.

If he does go, it would be tragic, but the blame for that lies directly at Terry Wallace's feet, along with the *smile* poor player development that Punt Road has given its young players for years now, no more no less.

Uh he has done it every game since he made that admission. Your criticism is unwarranted now. He was slack he's fixed it.

And he will be at the club next year.

Massai, you're talking rubbish. You're making mounds out of nothing. SO he was pushed oto the front? Big deal. Deledio is not going anywhere. You're just making it up as you go. As for being slack, Deledio's slack is about twicethe effort of most of the team. How about you start attacking some of the players who are slack but actually do think that is good enough. I have more respect for Deledio coming out and saying what he did. That's a sign of a true champion.

Re: Brett Deledio

I personally would have thought that Deledio's last few weeks would have put to rest the soft argument, it did so with me.

He had weaknesses that I wanted addressed earlier in the year and he has improved his weaknesses. Beyond the call in my opinion.

Are some basing their argument on the fact he didn't lead the team out to battle?

I mean good on Cuz for doing that, it is just ingraining Deledio to be all he can be, but to label Deledio as soft because of this is ludicrous.

As we stand, Brett Deledio is our best player.

Re: Brett Deledio

A quote from Lids!!
“But we move on to bigger and better things next year. We’ve got a fresh start and it’s going to be hard work but we’re looking forward to that.”

Sounds like he will be with us next year.
