Feel a little bit nostalgic today with Lids announcing his retirement.
Joined PRE in 2004 leading up to the draft where we picked up all these kids inside the top 20 & remember well the sense of hope & excitement in the air on the boards.
New coach, new kids, new dawn of the Fab 5..
As he's the last of the pack to depart (& by far the most successful), it's left me feeling just a little bit older today.

Only player I've seen as fast was Akermanis. Those freaking hands. Vices.
Alao remember some misses for goal that made me groan. And some corkers he nailed. Got too Richmond about 2 years too early. Too bad. Still hasn't produced a boy.

Yep, 4 picks in the top 20, what could go wrong....

I hoped and prayed that draft was the turning point. But the turning points came incrementally. Hard to believe we play Sat to establish our supremacy over the comp.

I'd say if they called for entries for the unluckiest footballer ever to play,

Lids would get nominated.

To slog and star for 243 games amidst a 37 year drought,

then miss the clubs zenith,

while finding yourself dancing a polka in a stupid orange jumper in front of a few rugby league people and canned cheering,

is pretty ******* stiff

a superb, classical player.

How can you be called ‘unlucky’
He left a club that had one poor season

Whos that between wallace and Graham?

That photo scares me.
29 picks in a draft and we still found a way of destroying it.

Lids only 31 games for GWS in his 3 seasons ( plus whatever further games he plays this season).

Keep saying it but trading big for 29 yr olds is stupid.

And saw this quote from Wayne Campbell at the time fo the trade 3 years ago:

“He understood that if he wants to be at a successful place towards the back end of his career, that he has to make a sacrifice, and he’s made a fair sacrifice,” Giants general manager of football Wayne Campbell said

Wayne’s just selling a deal.
That’s his job

I was there when that photo was taken. It was in Clinton Casey's back yard. We had no hope.

Can someone with a good memory for these things please remind me of what we got for the Deledio deal?
At the time we received a future first round pick (tied to Geelong’s ladder position) and a future third rounder from GWS .
Which players did we then turn these into?

Not sure about the picks etc, but didn't RFC have to pay some of Lids' salary?

Lids goes down as one of our best players this decade. Well done to him on a fabulous career.

Interesting to see what he does post footy. I'm not sure he sticks out as a coach but who knows
Saw some reference to him playing local footy with his brother - Torquay I think.
If that’s the case I have even more respect for him coz that would be a class act.
A buzz for he and his brother presumably but also for the footy club and the country league itself and it’s fans too
