Brett Deledio (merged)

Exactly.

Similar how Keating & Ottens were utilised by their clubs towards the end of the year.

Get them ready for finals and a GF assault !

The same I see happening with Deleido even though different type of players. Brett relies on his acceleration to mark, run away and kick. The only issue is that it seems chronic and could severely hamper him if he has further setbacks. Lower leg injuries are more difficult to shake and always linger.

In your premise i agree with you Scooper the right trade at the right time for the right result for the Tigers.

The only caveat will be how the Tigers utilise the currency we got for him.

Two separate things Craiggles. You make the right deal for the right picks. If you stuff the picks that's a separate issue. But you got the deal right.

This deal gets a big tick. If we get two guns it's a bonus but we made the right deal. But I get your side.

yeah. If you sell a hundred buck horse for two hundred bucks, and then blow it at the casino, you still got a good deal.

I think we got a good deal on Lids.

Deledio & Tambling have been the best trades we've made post Wallace era.

Yeah your right, but in between smothered in the worse trades and drafting in afl history
Conca, Ellis, Lennon , Griffens all crap
Hampson, Townsend, Yarran, Knights,

But will he come good.Questions marks for sure now!

Massive question marks. The 'old man's injury' is hard to shake and Brett's is now officially chronic given the number of issues he's had.
He's had issues with both the Achilles and his calf for several years now.
This is a genuine problem for him and doesn't seem likely to go away any time soon with the rigors required for AFL

Bit harsh on Knights, considering he smashed his knee. Hard to blame recruiters for that.

It's 2017 season or bust for Deledio.
If GWS are smart they will nurse him through to the latter stages of the season in readiness for some impact in September.
If Deledio struggles to get back to full fitness then I would start thinking that his career is about to become short-lived.
Like others on PRE, reckon this trade could prove to be an astute one.

If he is right in September and playing well Finals, that's all they need. It's not a disaster for them.

Real fair if 'Johnny come lately' Lids comes good for the last couple of rounds and gets to play finals while some poor sap who has played all year gets the boot. Good for team morale. Makes me think that clubs should be forced to play the players who have played the most games during the season in the finals unless they're injured or suspended.

Nah, I'm sure I've come up with far sillier ideas over the years. (I just can't remember any of my drunken posts right now) :hihi

Fair has nothing to do with it. When it comes to winning a premiership you do whatever you have to do to maximise your chances, not pander to the delicacies of the new generation.

We did well to get the trade we did for him. A win for us. If he comes good and makes a positive impact for the GWS finals campaign then they've won from the trade too.

Classic Win Win. There shouldn't be any spite.

So playing all season and being part of getting your team into the finals, only to get the chop for a ring-in who might have played a couple of games late in the season in his first year at the club, is okay in your book? Pandering to the delicacies of the new generation, please. More like someone else getting the rewards for your hard work and an older generation that refuses to hand over the reigns. Oh, and about "you do whatever you have to do to maximize your chances", go ask Essendope about that one. "Fair has nothing to do with it". Your words, not mine. I guess it's all good then.

I'm all for Lids being involved in a winning grand final but not if he's only played a few games and at the expense of someone who has played the bulk of the season. If you want to get around it, then GWS can name him for every game and play him for 1 minute deep in the last quarter at whichever end of the ground the players are falling asleep from boredom with instructions to stay out of the way if the ball does come his way.
