I agree with 1eye. When I was 18 years old, I had put in 10 years of service and didn't get drafted. A mega-talented athletic freak got drafted ahead of me with only 2 years in the system. I want my fairness contract.

And as a 15 yo old I played every cricket match in the seniors as a bowler.
Got dropped for the finals for a hopeless old geezer as reward for service over the years.
We lost.

And I changed clubs and never looked back.

Real fair if 'Johnny come lately' Lids comes good for the last couple of rounds and gets to play finals while some poor sap who has played all year gets the boot. Good for team morale. Makes me think that clubs should be forced to play the players who have played the most games during the season in the finals unless they're injured or suspended.

Johnny come lately is the worst description of Lids that I've ever read. Extremely consistent and a dual Jack Dyer medal winner belie that description.

Surely youve moderated a fair few worse? Whiteys old man typed out some doozys.

maybe you didnt read 'em, and just hit delete?

I'll always have a soft spot for Lids.

You're missing the point Rosy. At GWS, he is the Johnny come lately. Ability has nothing to do with it. At Richmond, he was an established player who had given many years of service. Look, if thinking that the players who had played all season should get a place to play in the finals over a newcomer who might have only played a few games towards the end of the season makes me a foolish person deserving of ridicule, then so be it. Those who had played most, if not all of the season are obviously fit to be on the team, unlike some here who couldn't get drafted in the first place. If Lids only plays a few games this year, I'd expect him to be overlooked for finals and told to think about 2018 instead. Seems to me that some here think Lids should play finals just because he is Lids. Seems to me there was a vaguely similar problem when he was at Richmond.

What does moderation have to do with it? Surely I am entitled to post my personal opinions?

(I just read 1 eyed's post explaining what he was referring to.)

What is they lose by 3 points playing a guy inferior to Lids because he'd played all year.

Your loyalty to one person has cost a premiership to 21 other (loyal) footballers.

So playing all season and being part of getting your team into the finals, only to get the chop for a ring-in who might have played a couple of games late in the season in his first year at the club, is okay in your book?

Come on you're over-exaggerating. A ring in? This is not backyard footy, this is the AFL. If a better player, who has been injured, is available to play a final and increase your chances of winning then they are going to be picked every time. The player who misses out understands this. There are always winners and losers. It happened to me at metro level, played a whole season, and was dropped for the final when ring ins arrived from everywhere. Now that's a different story but I still had to accept that this was the realities of the competitive world of sport. I felt it made me a better person going through this and made me strive to be even better. Yeah like poppy as just a young bloke at the time I considered moving on but instead I thought no, I'll prove them wrong, and I did, ended up with a couple of B&F runner ups. How you handle the lows defines you as a person. No team player would strive to prevent their team getting the ultimate success for their own needs.

Great analysis!!! Quite similar scenario at my end also.
