Brandon Ellis

When back with the flight when he had too a couple of times......that’s the expectation when you put on the Yellow an Black

He might have got a rev at qtr time because he lifted after a horrible firstvwtr.

Reckon he should take kmac spot on the wing when astbury and Prestia are back.

Still a big worry, but played well in the second half!

In a massive game agin quality opo thats no small feet!

Credit where credits due!

What's his boot size got to do with anything?

Lovely gesture from Brando wearing the black armband for Eurydice Dixon who was brutally raped and murdered last week. I dips me lid Brandon, you're a credit to yourself, your family and the RFC.

Yep, done well Brando.

Like most of us I have developed a special appreciation for brando. His background personifies the grassroots of our great stuggletown club.

I was disappointed with his return to bad habits but it is great to see him playing some hard footy again. Keep it up brando

Yes, and you forgot Houli. It's a big relief that when all these guys are available, we don't need to play Brando back. He and KMac can battle it out for a wing. In more bad news for KMac, Grigg also put in a very good game.

Spot on, Mr B. That kamikaze spoil in Q2 at the PR end in front of the southern stand was unbelievable. Could’ve very easily been awarded a Purple Heart but got out unscathed with a medal of valour. Forced a stoppage and Hawkins was coming the other way too. He started bravely and didn’t look back.

Interestingly Brandon was the last of our interchange bench to get get on the park in Q1. He was a highly decorated junior and has been selected in the AA 40 as a senior player so no doubt the indignity of batting at 22 stung him as much as the demotion to the twos.

This was a game played at finals intensity and while I think they need Ratugolea, Cockatoo and Parfitt fit and firing to really trouble us, the cats were a significant challenge yesterday. Brandon handled every problem thrown his way with composure and class. With the heat on, Brandon only coughed the ball up once out of his seventeen disposals. Phenomenal efficiency in a blockbuster in monsoonal conditions.

Brandon isn’t charged with the responsibility of the incisive kick anymore but he still had to shoulder the kick in duties on occasion. We’ve reduced his portfolio but it’s impossbile to shut him out of the game. He just reads the play too well in that back six. A lazy 8 marks and 6 intercepts. He was awesome in the air but it was one of his gathers off the deck on centre wing early in Q4 that was particularly noteworthy. Under serious pressure, he beat his opponent to the loose ball and turned on a dime at the last minute to break his opponent’s ankles and buy time to release a pinpoint left hand handball to Shorty, who had space and spotted up Rioli inside 50 for a goal shot. His confidence was sky high by that point and he backed himself in a clutch moment when a mistake could’ve handed Geelong the ascendancy. The shortage of spots hasn’t hurt his self belief which is a real testament to the mental side of his game.

Brando might be batting down the order in an incredibly strong team but he’s not going to go quietly back to the magoos. He was one of many players from a lower ranks to distinguish themselves yesterday and with two superstars unsighted for extended periods we couldn’t have won it out without blokes like him stepping up. Well played, Brandon.

Good post Gypsy, he was in the thick of it this weekend.

But that level should be an ordinary good game for Brando rather than an outstanding game.

Brando played a bewdy, tough game.

and agree Gyps, he played with confidence and belief. Steeled himself for the match and strong in the air and on the ground

He was poor in the first qtr in contested situations but lifted after that. Reckon there were 3 occasions he didn't go hard enough at ground/air balls.

But agree, he had a very good last 3 qtrs. His work rate is enormous.

When Astbury & Houli return and with Shorty locked in as the small defender I see Ellis as moving to the wing (his best position IMO) in place of KMac. I have little doubt he has the running capacity to offer the defensive pressure KMac does but he's a much smarter footballer and would provide more offensively.

Definitely played better. Very concerning though that he had just 6 pressure acts. That is extremely low. Next lowest was McIntosh with 22. Someone like Grigg who many think is poor defensively had 28. Then Graham at the other extreme had 99.

He built into the game beautifully, MD. I’m not saying he flew out of the blocks in Q1. He was last on the ground. It can be hard to slot in and get the tempo if you aren’t used to being that kind of change player. But you are right that he was still finding his feet in Q1 where he had low TOG.

Agree Shorty is a lock. I know you aren’t a fan of K-Mac (who had his worst game for the year with mitigating circumstances IMO) but I think Brandon will find himself out of the side before him. That’s not to say that if Brandon’s form continues the coaches would look at tinkering with the structure. No doubting that Brando has the tank to play on the wing as you say.
