So you're basically saying that they couldn't possibly be persecuted because they don't have a passport and managed to find their way to Indonesia? If you don't give a toss about displaced people in war torn countries then just come clean, no need to bleat on about queue jumpers and economic refugees. Like I mentioned earlier, under the Howard regime most were found to be legitimate, it was the reason TPV's were introduced. But keep up the vitriol, I'm sure you will sleep better knowing that these cheating & lying people will never set foot on Australian soil.

Don't get in a flap over "pirate". He is a sub-editor for 50/50 in The Hun. He is just trying to get some material. Or maybe he is a producer at 2UE thinking of having another crack selling a shock jock to Melbourne wireless listeners. Interesting story on the radio the other day.
A guy from Syria, who now lives in Australia and has done for at least a few years was desperate to get his mother here. She was still in Syria. She had no safe place to live and had been moving around. She did not want to leave. The last straw for her however was sitting on a bus that came under fire. The person sitting next to her had there head blown off.
The son said he was willing to travel to Indonesia to get on a boat with his mum so she could get here. He said he was very close to doing so. Then he heard on the radio about visa's that could be bought for around $20k. He managed to get one for his mum. She is now here. Because he could buy her a visa. These visas are now all gone.

Not sure of the point of the story, but it sure was touching hearing it.

What's the obsession with passports? Most people in the world don't own passports and that number would be significantly lower amongst the world's 20 million refugees. I'm really struggling to see your point here. Are you suggesting that it's impossible to get to Indonesia without a passport? Or is it that you buy into Scott Morrison's assertion that 90% simply destroy their passports so they won't be deported?

It may not accord with your political sensibilities but facts are facts. My advice to you is to ditch the hero worship and steer away from the shock jock media. If you don't mind the question pirate, do you think what is happening to people, so that we 'don't get none of dem illegals on ours shores', is at all reasonable? Do you think we are holding up our end of the 'UN agreement' on our responsibilities to refugees? Or do you think all refugees are really middle class citizens out to come to Australia because they think they can make more money here/ other reason which goes against them being 'real' refugees?
