Benny "Nostradamus" Gale

Nostradamus used quatrains and many of his predictions are open to interpretation. IMHO, Benny was much clearer in his vision , more concise, and over the journey ,much more accurate, plus we have vision( pun intended). Just like Dusty>Dangerfield so is Benny>Nostradamus.

Nostradamus? Pfffft.

I told my mate that Benny would lead us to 3 flags by 2020 the day he dropped his first chest mark.
Nostradamus pfffft...He hasn't got a trade pick right ever....Look at his fantasy football teams for 2020

He is such a contrast to the legend of Graeme Richmond.

What he has built is sustainable. A true club culture. Respected, not feared.

To be fair, they were both the right men for the time.

Richmond might have been a hard man, but he rebuilt a club under much different circumstances and his approach worked for 15 years. It was brutal and it was tough, but it turned around an absolute basket case of a club which didn't have equalisation measures like the draft and meaningful distribution of funds from the then VFL.

Benny has been CEO now for 11 years. I honestly hate to admit it, but I think Benny will be starting to see that it is time for a new challenge. I'd have to think that the Corporate world would be his oyster right now.

Despite Gil's loyalty to the Old Boys Network, I'm hoping Benny can replace Gil at the AFL. As much as it would suck to lose him, I trust him to find a suitable successor.

And lets face it, if he manages to run the AFL the way he's rebuilt Richmond, then the game as a whole will be a lot better off.

Absolutely spot on, but I just can't see how the AFL can compete in terms of salary let alone anything else.

Plus the AFL looks like a bit of a poisoned chalice eight now. Got to recover from Covid and plenty of clubs in strife.

Benny would be the right man for the job, but would be want it now?

Gil's well compensated for his role. He's up there with corp CEO compensation packages.

Benny knows how to pick up a poisoned chalice and turn it into a holy grail.

He would be a great AFL CEO.

I can't see the AFL making the finals let alone winning 3 flags.

I'm glad someone else mentioned this lest I be labelled a contrarian but it is on a Steve Waugh level of history rewriting.

The 3-0-75 was part of the 'Winning Together' launch in 2010 and referred to 3 finals appearances, including one top four finish by 2014, 0 debt and 75k members by 2014. Then more broadly the launch mentioned the aim to have 13 flags by 2020.

The last part is the obviously most important and a huge tick but the 3-0-75 was actually more miss than hit.

We didn't make the finals three time or finish in the top four and we only achieved 66,122 members in 2014. It took us until 2015 to make the third finals appearance and 2017 to make the top 4, and until 2017 to hit the 75k membership.

So of the 3-0-75 the only tick was the debt eradication that came in 2013 and that came about because the Tiger Army kicked in 6 million dollars in FTF money and I'm not sure anyone can take credit for that outside the army members.

He's a great CEO but the legend has grown way larger than the reality on this one.

Heathen!

I consider 3-0-75 a resounding success with no qualifiers because it was intended to inspire greatness and it fully achieved that aim. It’s nice the specific target numbers materialised within a reasonable timeframe, but that was never the point.

I’m sure there’s some old threads that remember better than I do, but I think pretty much all Richmond fans gave it a tick at the time.
