Love his overhead marking strength.

Agree, his marking is outstanding. Great disposal skills, getting a bit more of it now, something to work with.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Will be a player. Without a doubt. Great kick, great mark, and quick thinker. Knows where to run.

Only issues that I can see is his defensive efforts and his overall pace. Is a tad slow. But will be great on a HFF.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Provided more exciting glimpses into the future in just his 12th game. Beautifully weighted kick to a teammate on the camera side, second quarter (?). Picturing him as our own slightly less magical, slightly less flaky, but just as effective Steve Johnson down the track.

Was concerned last year but am now confident that the club chose perfectly.

Faded out of the game again but really liked what I saw in the 1st half.
Really needs to get his fitness levels up.
To be expected really - only in his second year and had hip surgery over the offseason which would have meant he wasn't able to do as much of the preseason as the club would have liked.

Was always going to take time. Patience was/is what was required here.

This surprised me as well. Very strong in the air which can become a real weapon.

Good post jinxy. Just wish he was half a yard quicker.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

His field kicking is elite, strong hands, is competing hard in pack situations, 2nd efforts are improving.....14 possies and 8 marks had a good night wouldve had a goal also if not for brain fade vickery...

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Really enjoyed this lad last night. He competes really well which seemed to be the knock on him.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Lack of speed will probably confine him to play permanent forward role but that's ok - he can be the mid size forward we need.

What he can & must improve is being hard at the contest & defensive effort. If he can do that he'll be a player. Bit soft at the moment in my view.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

What is it exactly about his game that makes him a better AFL player than a VFL player?

Conversely, what is it exactly about other player's games that makes them better VFL players than AFL players?

I'd like to have a clearer picture so I know what to look out for with future young players. One month ago I had low expectations for Lennon based on his VFL form and now it seems clear he'll be a good player after a couple of AFL games (in particular when Deledio was missing and he had greater responsibility).

How can we better predict the translation of traits to AFL?

Good post & in my view it's hard to tell because our VFL team is borderline shambolic in how they play. Having been to a few VFL games, I generally look for where the players move to during the flow of the game (e.g. How they read the play); how they compete especially in one on one situations & how they use the ball, especially under pressure. Don't worry so much about how many possessions, but the quality of them. It's for this reason I think both McBean & McDonough will be AFL players as they're smart about the positions they get to. Problem at VFL level is that often the ball doesn't get to them because of sub-standard players and skills.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

No goals in the last 2 weeks, but he's still been good. Great today roaming the flanks. Minor blemish with that dropped mark though.

Perfect potential HFF. Keep going, Ben.

Yep. Building a tank will be the trick that unlocks his full potential.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Improved as the heat went out of the game, but looked a bit unsure at times today.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Showing that he's a good player. I think he's taken the step from fringe to best 22 and given Frank another first round tick.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Thought he was really good today , would have got a goal if Vickery wasn't as selfish when he should have handballed instead of trying to take 2 on in front of goal and getting pinned holding the ball, liked to see he obviously thinks he belongs as he gave Vickery a spray after that. Showed his kicking class, with the kick inside 50 to Thomas, threaded the needle with that one.

Not his best game today but he's doing OK. Great addition to the team.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Tough audience, he was very good today. I liked the way he continually presented

I think he is going to be a very good player for us, one or two more preseasons is all he needs.
