Ben Lennon

Lennon was shopped last year in a very public way.

Nobody in the league wanted him.

Lennon won't walk at the end of the year, he will be delisted, no body will want him again.

He just doesn't have enough AFL traits.

Still have hope for Ben but time is running out. Should have been given games given his form in the VFL & our lack of another marking type forward

Quoted for truth.

Make a decent suburban footballer though.

In the minority but Im still a fan. Ffs we dont just throw away a first rounder!

I admire your loyalty sai, but the two things I live by, 'know when to cut your losses', 'don't throw good money after bad'.

Having said that, I reckon he has one last roll of the dice, playing OK in the seconds, and there is an opportunity looming for a non mosquito in the fwd line.

On the back of his 4 goals in the VFL there's been quite a few calls around for him to come into the side but I can't see it happening.
His game wasn't that flash on the weekend despite the small bag of goals.
Athletic traits still remain an issue. Also looked very proppy in the game.

Well no use playing a guy at AFL level if he's not near 100% fit, but I'd like to see him replace Castagna at some point and given a game or three. The dilemma of choosing a player who can get it more but only convert poorly, or his opposite, who is not as athletic but kicks for goal very capably.

Cal Mooore might be the best option: a more balanced blend of both? Plus size.

I think his only hope is to play as a traditional full forward. Then his lack of a tank won't come into play as much.

Jack regularly plays up the ground ( although he seems to be playing closer to goal lately)

Castagna for all his errors is very quick. He applies a fair bit of pressure & his eratic style makes stuff happen even if it's not always to our advantage.
If you replaced him with lennon, what you might gain in some areas you'd lose in others.
Have always said Lloyd is the best comparison for Ben in terms of game style & athletic traits. Thing is Sam also finds himself out of this team now which is built around speed.

Kicking for goal thread. "Woe is us, we cant kick, how can we fix it?"

Ben Lennon thread "Can't play him forward , liability, too slow"

Disconnect unnoticed.

Chicken/egg lamby. Gotta get shots at goal to kick them. Ben's had trouble doing that lately at senior level.

How about a slightly radical approach, Ben at full forward & Jack centre half forward.
Didn't someone post that McCrae said Benny was more of a lead up type. He's a good mark & a straight kick. It might be worth a try.

This has to be worth a look. Our kicking for goal has cost us dearly this season and Lennon knows where the goals are and is pretty good overhead. He'd need to work a lot harder than he has previously to apply the all important forward defensive pressure....but as a high pick, should be given one last shot at it. At least we know he wont try and pass it off from 30 metrs out like some did last week.
