Ben Cousins a Tiger (Merged)

The way Benny is coming back is EXACTLY the way he should be coming back. There's not ducks and drapes, political moves or mental games.

It's purely a case of gradually easing him into AFL training and gradually increasing his workload. Too massive a jump would be too much a system shock to him and be grossly negligent soft tissue wise.

When you have a diamond mine you take the time to cultivate it properly, if he gives 100% and he is handled properly, his body willing, we all know he can play.

If we stuff up on his part, by racing him back or expecting him to do what Jackson or White can do, then he will just break down and we will only have ourselves to blame.

The clubs being scientific/responsible in it's approach nothing more.

Exactly DD. Nothing out of the ordinary here, but common sense for a bloke whose been out of the game for a while.

I think there could be an element of political management as well.

Ben ran 2kms competing against some other players a few hours before the other boys ran the tan... there isn't a huge difference between this and the tan (depends how "gradual" you think his return is).

Ben has been working on his running for the past year, it is the football fitness that he lacks. His general running fitness shouldn't have been effected much.

There isn't much reason why he can't run the tan and get a good time right now.

The club is handling Ben well. Build him up slowly rather than flogging him on the TAN. In reality he needs a solid 4 week block of training where he can do all the football work then we will know where he is really at and when he may debut.

Would bet my bottom dollar that he put a fair bit of work in while he was back in WA to try and make up some lost ground on the rest of the group.

But lets not get to worried - compare him to Stuart Dew who started training by walking/running as he wasn't fit enough to run for more than 5 mins and they were so concerned about soft tissue fatigue injuries.

anything on Paris Hilton in the Hun?

Yes she was seen with Benny Cousins during her recent shopping trip in Melbourne. They were looking in a up-class Baby Clothes specialist store.

Because we haven't had a Cousins post on the main board for 30 second I thought I'd fil the void with this report from training from yellow and black:

"As opposed to the report on the radio news Cuz did take part with the main group, Browny pulled out before him and then Cuz left the main group about 15 minutes before the end. There was some suggestion that he hurt something. He and Brownie then did some handballs and pot shots at goal. The whole group towards the end were having full field run throughs in lines. They were exhausted but Cuz quite often pushed harder than anyone in his group and nearly caught the group in front. I remember Polo was working hard and was in his group but Cuz was in front on his own. Young Brown was really struggling in the heat and was well behind the rest of the group. Reminded me of me in my pre-seasons."

I remain healthy skepticism about the Cousins trade but stuff like this makes even me exited- what made Cousins great was his ability to run harder and longer than anyone else, it's great to hear he is getting that ability back so soon.

I don't think he ever really lost it Col.

Perhaps, but we never really knew did we because he wasn't playing.

Some quite respected commentators have suggested that we would be able to run so hard when he was clean, he might be proving them wrong.

ok so what did Benny do for dinner tonight? Mexican with soda water?

I am wondering whether the HUN will eventually hit a wall with the amount of pointless Cousins shots it can run.
