Ben Cousins a Tiger (Merged)

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

Pretty sure he didn't put a price on his head, only wants to play but I cannot recall where I heard that so will have to do some digging.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

Don't get to ahead of yourselves. All 15 clubs must agree on Polak going on the long term injury list as a mature rookie and Eddie has indicated that he wont support it!

We might take him with 6 anyway if thats the case, although CC did say we were taking a kid with #6.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

If this is true, someone should start a thread so we can pick which week he'll be busted for drugs or does something equally stupid and Richmond becomes a laughing stock. It's all about Wallet and getting another big fat contract. Again simply pathetic if true.

Why will it reflect badly on Richmond if Cousins takes drugs again after being cleared by the AFL?

No. We will be seen as giving him a chance. If he blows it, logic suggests that people will judge just that- that he blew it, not RFC who were trying to do the right thing.

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

What's a bet a photoshopped picture of Ben in a Richmond jumper will be on the back page on the Herald Sun tomorrow?

Hard to argue with that but personally I don't want him.

A sure thing I reckon...

If this ends up being fact then maybe the great Tim 'Timbo Goss' Gossage knew something all along...

OK fair enough you don't like the Cuz. But surely if he stuffs up again then it should be clearly stated that the show is over, game, set and match. The AFL, AFLPA and others could not help him if this was the case.

I look at it differently, if we give him a go, it is put in black and white that he is FINISHED and DONE, but we were the club to give him a second chance and it is on his head if he fails.

Yes the headlines would reflect wonderfully on Richmond (just like it did for WC) if he does relapse? (assuming he has even stopped?). Especially after 15 other clubs rejected him and after his history. To think it would be anything other than a PR disaster is laughable. High risk for minimal short-term gain.

It would ironic if Eddie of all people helped Richmond dodge this bullet. I guess stranger things have happend?

Anyone know the rules in this case? What happened in the Ramanaskas situation, and did the AFL bring in a new rule for future cases?

Re: Ben Cousins a tiger?

wonder who worded up the press .....someone keen to test the waters.....

WC had a well documented drug culture at the club. Richmond couldn't be further removed from WC in that respect. All the evidence is that he is clean - why question it? 15 other clubs might be wrong. If this happens, at least the Tigers have shown some balls to stand out from the crowd.

Clearly we're not going to agree on this. I think we have the off-field capabilities (read Wallace, March, Wright and Sheedy) to deal with this. If it goes wrong, we'll be seen as the club that gave him a chance - a chance that he will have blown.

Disagree. Different circumstances. the general impression is that West Coast were guilty of not acting on a few players that were well known to be on the juice and keeping questionable company. In this case now, it is tootally different I believe - we gave a chance on a zero tolerance basis.

I take your point, yes it is a risk, yes 15 others have overlooked him, but I don't care what the other 15 have said, I don't give a stuff, I am only interested in the Tiges, I bleed yellow and black stuff the rest.
Yes, it is high risk, for short term, but what if this works?

Well said Freezer.
