Been to a good gig lately/Concerts [Merged]

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

I saw WPA at Byron a few weeks ago. They were really good, in fine form. However they relied on some later stuff which isnt their best.

Still great to hear Sgt Small and a Tale they Won't Believe again!

I saw them a couple of years ago at Queenscliff Music festival,

And that gig was filmed, and is now a live DVD,

They were great.

Vaguely remember seeing that gig too, kiwi. They weren't bad, either. Hasn't Mick Thomas done a few solo things at Queenscliff too?

Went to see Pnau last night at Billboards. Very good fun, crowd (as you'd expect for a dance act) was very into it, probably all drugged off their brains, but still. Good little venue, that Billboards...I like the tiered approach, good viewing from almost anywhere. Not a problem for me, but my short friends were very appreciative.

Only one bad thing...my hearing is wrecked this morning. I can't imagine how people go to so many of those things...they must be deaf beyond belief. Must take ear plugs next time.

Saw WPA yesterday, as always brilliant. Possibly my favorite band. Brought back many great memories.

The wife and I danced (jumped) away all night/afternoon. It sure was a long time between drinks!

I'm really glad u guys loved the WPA gigs. If you reckon they are great now, u shoulda seen them in the mid to late 1980s. They were awesome then. I liked the line -up with Dave Steel on lead guitar. he added a really nasty edge to the band. Magnificent!

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

I'm off to see Dave Grohl this weekend.

Just got tickets to see Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters, Sun Kil Moon) at the East Brunswick Club. Should be excellent.

I just found out that Band of Horses are playing Splendour in the Grass and doing a couple of sideshows in Melbourne at the Palace (metro) and Billboards...in August, I think. I will definitely be at one of those.

Went along to see Springsteen at Emirates Stadium last night (Arsenal's home ground). Fantastic show - about 2 3/4 hours, 28 songs. The band were superb and The Boss was brilliant. Seemed to have all the energy of a 20 year old and had the crowd in the palm of his hand. At one stage he grabbed all the signs people were holding up that he could reach and then a few songs later grabbed one from the pile at random and held it up to the band and off they went on the "request" which on this occasion was Cadillac Ranch.

I'm not a huge fan of stadium shows but the sound quality wasn't too bad, especially as this was the first concert at the Stadium, and our seats were pretty good.

He did a lot from his current album but that was ok as it's actually not a bad album, a bit if a return to form, and he did all the biggies except Jungleland anyway so everyone was happy. Highlight for me was Because The Night featuring a long solo from Nils Lofgren which climaxed with him spinning on one leg as he played.

The Highlights?
Mossy,s version of Cry me a river,Jon stevens was just exhilirating,
Jack Jones Is one of the most sensitive guitaists Ive ever heard to pick up a takamine and tanya ,s version of buses and trains was just like a geoff raines 60 metre pass right on to roachys chest! :hihi :clap 8) ;D

Saw Elton John here in Darwin a few weeks ago. A real blast, and fantastic to get an international act of this quality to a small place like Darwin.

I checked the set list on the UK shows, 2 Jam songs only and no style council.

He is out promoting a new album, so I will not be going.

I was hoping for a greater presence of Jam songs than 2.
