I came to Japan at 107kg and 177 cm(what can I say, beer and guitar don't promote weight loss.) Managed to get down to 79kg in about six months, cut the alcohol out, walking 5-10 km every day. Diet change probably helped, lots of fish. Now I'm bouncing between 83-88 kg, can't keep it off. Tried going to the gym, and was asked to leave before they called the police. :help tattoos are a big no no. No gym for me. No idea how I can get down to 70-75 kg. Giving me the irits. Running, stretching and eating healthy. Any ideas PREnders?

Look into the Dukan diet. It's a great book to read and has helped me big time this year. Basically it is a protein diet so you eat lots of steak and eggs. You don't starve either. Weight drops off very quickly and this method gives you the steps to take after you lose the kg's also. I have come to realise that diet is the key to losing weight. A bit of high intensity cardio every second day helps also.

A culmination of a few events in my life and reading this thread over Christmas inspired me to quit the smokes, lay off the grog for 40 days and keep a closer eye on my diet.

I'm feeling confident enough to share now....only 7 days to go. Lost about 4 kgs, haven't had a smoke in 33 days, haven't had a drink in 33 days (hadn't had an alcohol free week in 20 something years....) and started an exercise routine. Feeling pretty good I must say. Won't bother to pretend its a permanent change, but I'm hoping that it will become one.

So, a big thanks to those that contributed to this thread for some inspiration.

Great stuff Tiger Rob. Overcoming those habits must have been pretty tough at times!

Well done and keep it up, I'm sure you will love the changes that follow.

That is really awesome. I used to work for Quit WA and I always feel inspired when people tell me that they have given fags the boot. I know how tough it can be, even though I have never smoked.

33 days. Well done, you're over the worst of it but don't drop your guard. It's a lot easier to restart than you think. I've stopped for 20months now. Longest I've ever gone without a smoke in 30 years.

You got that right Baloo, it will be 2 yrs tomorrow for me after 20 yrs on the gear, i never thought i could do it but i did, i cut down at first and would mark down on the calander how many i had each day until i had a lapse and i could see myself going back the other way until i reminded myself i had made a promise to my daughter to quit and took every smoke out of the pack and broke them all in half and that was a near full pack.

Not as easy as it seems, had to elimanate all the area's i would have a smoke but going to those place's and not having one made it easier where now the smell of smoke turns me off, just don't talk to me about the first few weeks, man that was torture.

Now i feel better, my breathing is better, my clothes don't stink and the wike loves it because she has more money to spend. :hihi

This is one of the critical keys to quitting smoking. Nicotine addiction is very situational, and one of the things we encouraged people to do was work out where they would go and have a smoke (like the pub) and either try to avoid it for a while, or recognise that aspect of their addiction and steel themselves for it when they went.

If anyone on here wants to quit, give the Quitline a call. They can give you a range of strategies to really help. It isn't for everyone, and there is no tried and true method, but just don't stop trying.
