Bachar Houli - بشار حولي,

Definitely one of the best rebounding defenders in the league. Makes a few mistakes but it doesn't phase him that much. Like the way he commits himself to a spoil or tackle when the chips are down this season.

There is no doubt that Bachar has taken his individual and team game to another level.

I have always considered him to be skillful etc, but I did have a couple of question marks about his physical commitment to the contest.
He has definitely improved that side to his game this year and has become a much harder player.

In fact, he is becoming one of the Tigers most integral players and so important to the overall team structure.

Shaun Grigg would be wise to take a leaf out of Houli's book and develop some hardness.

Very true.
It's been good to see his game develop to this standard.

Another terrific game, ran extremely hard and the 45m bullet pass across his body to McGuane(?) at CHF was a thing of beauty.

Was shocked to see him added to Lloyd's AA team this week! (Not because he doesn't deserve it.)

His season is flying under the radar.

He won't get AA but other names thrown up for AA flanker spots like Hibberd, Walker, Enright, Malckesi I'm not convinced he's been any worse. Probably comes from the perception that still exists from couple years ago that a lot of the football world still think he's just a one way runner or just an offensive player when in reality he's one of our better one on one players now and a very good all round player.

McVeigh is probably the one standout for mine.

Champion Data rated him as statistically "elite" in his category before the season started and he's only reinforced that assessment. I expect him to be in the squad, and given the back flanks/pockets last year included Dempster, Waters & Birchall, I reckon he's a chance to get picked. There isn't a huge amount of competition like there is in the midfield.

No, but because the AA selectors rate midfielders and forwards more highly than other positions, they squeeze out guys like Houli by putting those types of players into the team out of position.

That has certainly happened in the past, but they've recently made a conscious effort to select players in position.

Although there are a couple of precedents, it's rare for a team finishing in the top 5 or 6 not to have any reps. These things seem more important when you're not playing finals, but it'd be good for at least one of our players to get some recognition.

That kick was the kick of the year, great vision to see it and amazing skill to pot it lace out.

Has to be in the AA squad. No doubt.

just a bit more salt to add to the Essendon's already dismal year

our best run to receive player. his work off the ball is huge.
Yep, just keeps running the overlap for the team, his kicking is fairly sublime as well.

Has been excellent this year and has significantly improved the defensive side of his game and intercept marking.

Runs hard and delivers well. I especially like the encouragement that he was giving to Dustin Martin during the game yesterday. Really seemed to be singling Dustin out for continuous praise.

That kick to McGuane was an absolute ball tearer. He spotted the target and delivered it with precision. It was beautiful to watch. Pity Luke couldn't convert because the play from Houli really deserved it.

Bachar is far and away in career best form.
