Bachar Houli - بشار حولي,

Its the most transgressed but least paid free there is. I often think the umps get the 10m bounce/15m kick distance rules mixed up. Always appears kicks travelling less than 15m get paid as marks and players can easily run in excess of 10m. You just need to count the steps, most players when running would take strides in excess of 1.2-1.4m, that only gives you 7-9 paces. Players often take 20 strides before bouncing. I understand its a lot easier watching at the ground or on TV but it does get frustrating when they apparently decide to apply the rule in a game out of nowhere.
It's 15m between bounces. But it's not unusual to see players run 25.

Obvious stat padding by Houli? Can't see it.

If you accused Ellis of stay padding I may not dismiss it out of hand, but Houli, at his age and maturity, no chance.

It's not cunning or sneaky that he pads his stats, its bloody obvious! But I concede it's not a massive crime for a running HBF'er, heaps of other players do it. I'm merely shining a light on the fact that occurs. (and it bothers me more than it should).

Can we please stop the racist inferences and focus on debating the issues. At least we have moved past that Houli doesn't bounce unnecasility, we are now debating if matters. That's a start. Perhaps we could take a similar leap on his apparent focus on racking up disposal numbers. It's understandable. To a large extent that's his role and he currently doesn't have a contact beyond 2019.

More appropriately......I wish Bachar all the best for his 200th, he has been an excellent ambisitor for the club and he has done exceptionally well in 2019. Last week was his best game for the season imo, and he continues to improve his game. He deserves another 12 month contract extension. I would not have said that at the start of the year, as I thought some combination of Short, Naish, Menadue or Markov would replace his aging body. But he is clearly better than those on current form and he deserves another 12 month extension. Credit to him.

I feel if the club gave him a contract extension now it would be good for his football and the clubs finals campaign.

His apparent focus on racking up disposal numbers?
You lost all credibility after that sentence.
Please give up with this ridiculousness.

Your opinion is fair comment, but I've never ever watched Houli and thought he's chasing stats. Never.

It's odd. I've been a critic of Houli's at times. But I've only really ever had an issue with his ball use. I've just felt that as a specialist distributor, he has generally not been as clean or composed as is required of that role.

But I've never had an issue with his courage or toughness, or commitment to the team, or thought that he was selfish. He seems like the ultimate team player, and like someone who genuinely plays his role.

Now some are saying he bounces the ball too much? Seems like a reach to fit a narrative.

he bounces too early.
and gets lots of kicks and handballs.
Brodders explained why bouncing is an acceptable practice, for balance and doing it when there is no pressure.
And TBH told a story of his primary school exploits

I agree completely with your first paragraph - impact is crucial to his distributor role. The other aspects being debated are somewhat inconsequential.

But do you think his impact would come under greater scrutiny if his disposal numbers weren't as high?

That's the narrative I'm trying to reach.

Exactly.

The Day 1's knew he was good. Love everything Bash has done for the club on and off the ground. True Tiger. I associate Holui & Grigg with the start of the turnaround. Always will.
It’s funny, many on here at the time cast it as the ultimate symbol of how far Richmond had fallen, and that both Grigg and Houli were damaged castoffs from our rivals. In a way they were. I don’t think anyone could have imagined they’d both end up storied life members of the club.

And yet here we are, 170 odd games later and with Premiership heroics in his CV and we’re hearing from one poster who’s inferring that a reason Bachar is chasing stats is because he is uncontracted at the end of the year and is focussed on increasing his stats to display his worth assuming, presumably, that he is desperately playing for an extension.
I’d suggest that 1. He does not know the humble team focussed man that Bachar is 2. He does not know much about football. Try suggesting to anyone in our coaching fraternity that Bachar is focussed on that and hope they haven’t got a mouth full of nails. Because they would spit them out in your face laughing so hard.
Some people don’t need a shovel to dig themselves a hole.

A fringe player who is on the verge of being delisted and has never established himself may look at certain stats at the end of a game and worry whether he’s done enough.
Not Bachar

Yeh, I was a doubter but they have played a role on the field but perhaps an even bigger one off the field in developing the culture at the club.

Congrats on your 200 games. Not bad for a fumbly inaccurate gutless stat seeking Essendon reject.
