Yep, I'm a critic and he was good.
I'm a critic too and I agree he was damn good. Put his body on the line every time and came in from the side and cut off a lot of Geelong attacks with a mark. Read the play well.

Good tough game Bachar!

Re: Bachar "The Finals Specialist" Houli

Not a whole lot of love for Bachar who was easily one of our best..... ???

Re: Bachar "The Finals Specialist" Houli

I have always thought this bloke will cost us a final with his panicking but I am very happy to be wrong on this occassion, was great last night.

Re: Bachar "The Finals Specialist" Houli

He was brave. Maybe the emergence of Vlastuin has given him freedom to play further up the ground and let off the pressure a little.

Re: Bachar "The Finals Specialist" Houli

Coming right at the business end. Having the 4 weeks off, put him behind in ball touch, but now has built up his touch.

Re: Bachar "The Finals Specialist" Houli

Interesting stats in yesterday's paper. In the Tigers game for both teams, Houli covered the most distance 14.3km, was 4th for distance covered in attack mode with 5.8km (Lambert, MArtin, Rioli, Houli, Castagna were top 5, no Geelong), 2nd for distance covered at speed (> 18km/hr) with 2.5km (Motlop was top with 3km), and 3rd most total sprints for the game (>24km/hr) with 15 (Motlop top 25 and Broad second with 17). Worked his butt off did Houli.

Good stuff. He did seem to be where the ball was a lot. That's what you want from your half backs these days. That have to also play as wingers/ extra mids when you have the ball.

I noticed Nank did big miles during the game as well. It's all about the run and spread.

Re: Bachar "The Finals Specialist" Houli

Funny, but I would not have Houli as part of out manic, pressuring players ......
more of a link up, run ahead and ceate a hole sort of player.

Correct. Only had 6 pressure acts. Only one's around that were McIntosh with 6 and Rance with 2. Everyone else had at least 11 pressure acts.

Had a goal too til that idiot umpire stole it from him.

In my book, played a cracking game and will go down as playing a very important role in helping us win our first final since 2001. Hopefully shuts up the haters for a couple of weeks.

Agree 100% Turn.

As a big Bachar fan and a regular defender of him on this site, I am perplexed by the kudos being thrown out by known critics. On Friday night, I thought he was below his usual output.

Broad is very important too. A lock down defender who also has the potential for an offensive game.

Provides extra cover for Houli.

It's all relative.

I'm a critic and the fact he wasn't a fumbling, bumbling liability in a big game gets a tick from me.

There were no panic handballs, no fumbles, no goals from turnovers and often put his body on the line!

Great game by Bachar - definitely raised the bar!

About how I saw it. I have low expectations of him and he surpassed them. The less important he is to the side the better we are.

He's an elite runner, he played his role. I don't expect him to make crucial tackles/spoils/plays. Just provide an outlet with his overlap run.
